Holding a deposit?

My hairdresser has now implemented a deposit system which is absolutely fine, especially as she’s self employed.

What I’m annoyed about is that it’s a holding deposit. So I pay now, have my appointment, book in for next appointment and that deposit sits there indefinitely. I wouldn’t get the deposit taken off my total, it would just roll over.

lI already pay a lot, so it’s just an added extra for no benefit for me. Aibu to go find a new hairdresser?

How much is it and what's the gap between appointments?

Hmmm. How annoying. I would expect that to come off the bill too, not just sit there. How much is the deposit? More just out of interest on my part than anything else! What happens if you move away, decide to go elsewhere and want the rolling deposit back? All seems a bit awkward to me!

Do you really think anyone is going to tell you you’re being unreasonable and you should stick with this hairdresser?!

if their terms no longer work for you, find someone else!

Just tell her you don’t know when you want your next appointment, so take deposit off this one and you’ll pay deposit as and when you make the next - then she isn’t sitting on your money.

My hairdresser asks you to book your next appointment when you go to streamline the process. I guess deducting the deposit then taking another a few weeks later is a bit of a faff but also would depend how often you go....

This happened to me before and so stopped going. I then said I wasn't rebooking a next session and wanting to use my deposit as payment that day and they got really funny with me and still tried to keep it?!! It was really awkward but I stood my ground.

I'd rather they held card details and charged IF there is late cancellation etc

Also forces you to return to her doesn't it? What if you want to go elsewhere?
