My ex husband is a police officer. He does shift work 7 days working then 4 days off, then 5 days working 3 days off.
On at average month he sees his boys for 5 days but can go upto 18 days without seeing them or have any contact. I asked him recently if he plans on seeing them as it will be 17 days between visits. He said he has decided to have 1 set of rest days off a month so he can rest (hence not seeing his boys for 2 weeks). Am I being unreasonable for thinking this is out of order, or do you think he deserves a break? He seems to always put himself first.

Completely unreasonable, you can’t be a parent just when you feel like it. Try to see it in a positive way, you get more time with your boys and depending on their ages they will figure out for themselves who really raised them eventually
