Who's unreasonable - me or window cleaner?

HugATwat · 13/03/2023 10:51

My dog is petrified of the window cleaner.

The reason I started using my current window cleaner is because he always texts so I know in advance when he's coming.

On Friday evening, WC text to say he was coming on Saturday morning. But I was going to be out Saturday morning so I texted him back and said to leave it for this month because the dog would be home alone and wouldn't cope. I said I'd still be happy to pay but please don't clean the windows.

No reply.

I texted again first thing on Saturday morning. No reply.

I called him on Saturday morning. He didn't answer. I left a message. No reply.

I texted him again before we went out saying please don't clean my windows today.

I went out because I couldn't avoid it. I'd asked a couple of friends if they could sit with the dog but they couldn't, far too short notice. When I came back, the windows had been cleaned. The dog was in a right state and had pissed and shit all over the floor.

So I spent an hour or so calming the dog down. Then another couple of hours cleaning everything up. And the living room carpet will need a professional because the piddle has stained quite badly.

I texted the WC to tell him I wouldn't be paying because I'd specifically asked him not to clean the windows.
This time, he texted back. Quelle fucking surprise.

I'm holding firm and not paying. Needless to say I've told him to take me off his books for the future.

It's a weird situation because I was actually willing to pay him for NOT doing the work. But I'm not willing to pay for work that he's done that I specifically asked him not to do.

Am I being unreasonable here? I'm still so pissed off.

plenty of texts being sent
no response
a phone call - doenst take a genius.

To be fair I can see why you might not like texting.

OMG this has to be the most hilarious thread on here in a long time!! I laughed so much I woke the cat - the one that loves the wc and they squish a bit of extra water at her! She follows them round the house from the inside. The other one legs it like a greyhound to hide - TG she doesn't shit though!!

Both rescue girls like your Ddog @HugATwat - none of us knows what the wee things have been through before finding loving homes, and sounds like your furbaby has come on by leaps and bounds!

So, we have:

You shouldn't have a dog
You shouldn't have a neurotic dog
You shouldn't have windows
You should clean your own bloody windows if you insist on having them
Don't expect the wc to check his texts
The wc can't read
However he had something to read the text for him about not getting paid
Ddog needs to be confined somewhere cell-like
Important to note - ddog normally shits in the garden, like, erm, a housetrained one
The OP's family may or may not shit in the garden when the WC comes (WC... geddit??!)
The dog's barking may have caused the WC to fall off his ladder and probably shit himself
There's condolences re your late father
Customers need to grab their WCs in advance rather than expecting them to, read their fucking texts

Batshit crazy!!!!

Hurrahhurrah · 13/03/2023 16:29

The ops window cleaner, 'This time, he texted back. Quelle fucking surprise'.

I don't think in the grand scheme of the business the op will be missed. Why do people think getting all shirty over the tiny minutiae of a business is somehow making a point? They're probably breathing a sigh of relief.

Are you the window cleaner? or just very dim? 😅

@HugATwat I've been reading this to my DH and he wants to know your dog's name please?

Your username is classic for this thread btw - you have a huge choice to pick from lol!

The window cleaner could've said this.
'We’re seeing that you’ve got additional needs that are beyond the initial scope of what we discussed. We have a couple of options. We can upgrade you to our VIP level (Raise the price) or we can help you find a company that’s a tighter fit with the level of support you really need.
When annoying customers start costing you more than you make, getting rid of them is the smart financial move.
You might even find that the most annoying customer is one who doesn’t pay you a lot of money. In all of the companies I’ve built, I noticed this trend. Customers who are constantly complaining are never satisfied. They create unreasonable demands for you and your staff. They are toxic'.

How is not wanting services ONCE (but still paying for them) toxic and "always complaining"? This thread is hilarious.

lieselotte · 13/03/2023 16:48

Mmmmdanone · 13/03/2023 11:06

This would really upset me too as I have a nervous dog. I would probably pay though (grudgingly), but he's lost a customer due to his own terrible customer service.

I wouldn't pay - the OP said it wasn't convenient and he chose to ignore her. She also texted him several times and also tried to phone.

I had a window cleaner who didn't give me warning before he came, and one day he just arrived at 5pm as I was making dinner and I said no I don't want them doing. He was clearly put out and never came back. But my current window cleaner always texts the day before.

lieselotte · 13/03/2023 16:48

Asking a window to make allowances for a dog is batshit

The reason is immaterial here. The OP did not want her windows cleaned that day. That is all that matters.

One WC upthread makes allowances for a cat, so <shrug>. (NO EMOJI, MN!!!)

Do domestic WC's really talk like this:
'... we can help you find a company that’s a tighter fit with the level of support you really need'? 😂

Tell your DH that the dog's called Suzi. Well, its Suzanna really but we shorten it to Suzi.

Telling a window cleaner you don't require their business this week/month is a perfectly normal, everyday thing to do. It has fuck all to do with why she asked, it boils down to saying no thanks and him doing it anyway.

You're just trolling us now.

Someone just suggested that the WC might upgrade me to his VIP service. He absolutely does not have a VIP service. I'm not sure too many WCs do actually. VIP window cleaning.

Your dog gets lovelier with each thing you write about her, OP. Don't tell me what breed she is. I've been seeing her as a pale gold retriever type. Don't burst my bubble.

OMG - I've been moaning about our upstairs windows being hard to wash since they were fitted about six years ago, now I discover that I can do this! I will still have to reach dangerously out to do the fixed panel, but every little helps.
Social media is so educational 😁

I need a window cleaner, there's absolutely no way I could do the outsides of my own windows. And I don't want to. LOL. 😅

I specifically used this guy because he texts in advance. I was super clear when I took him on that I needed him to text in advance because of the dog. He has a dog too an totally understood.

She's not nervous about anything else these days. Just the WC. So when I know the WC is coming, I can take her out or I can herd her around rooms (so we're in the back rooms while WC is out the front and vice versa). No problem. It's only an issue if she's home alone and the WC comes.

I am so glad all of my windows fold in for me to clean them!
