Curious About Weight and Dress Size Comparisons

Sorry, I know this is very nosey, but a friend and I are both trying to lose weight.
And I was surprised to hear that I weigh a little more than her but I'm also a couple of inches taller and we're currently the same dress size.
So was wondering how much everyone's height and weight and dress sizes compare?
I'm 5ft 8in, 13 stone 3lb and a size 16.
(Can squeeze into size 14 trousers, if I don't mind losing all feeling in my legs!!)
Also what did you weigh before having children?
I was between 9 and 10 stone, so cannot believe I have gained 4 stone with 2 children

That's odd! I. 5 5 17:4 and an 18\20. I don't like things tight though. I am a round ball I don't see how you can wear the same size when you are so tall. Weird

MithrilCostsMore · 13/03/2023 08:38

five foot seven, eleven and a half stone. Size 12 jeans etc. tops are difficult to figure as I have a 34K bust.

Catspyjamas17 · 13/03/2023 08:39

A few pounds lighter than you, OP, 5'7" and size 14, often a 12 in tops, but definitely a 14 on the bottom half. 12 stone and under = fitting in size 12 skirts and trousers. I am very solid of limb, muscular, big boned but don't have particularly wide hips or shoulders.

Whyisitsososohard · 13/03/2023 08:41

That's interesting I'm 5.5 and a 14 to 16 with plenty clothes a 14. I'm 88kg I think that is 13.7 in stone and lb. I was 120kg and had a sleeve. If like to lose more but I'm massively aware that being very restricted on diets can lead to weight gain long term. So I think I'm going to concentrate on my fitness.

rookiemere · 13/03/2023 08:43

5ft6 and 11st13 having recently lost a few pounds.

I was at the stage where some size 14 trousers were difficult to get on, now all size 14 bottoms fit fine. Hard to say for toot and dresses as sizes vary so much so I'm either 12 or 14.

Recently had scenario where had to return two size 14 tops to M&S - one was baggy and clown like and the other was skin tight over my belly. Sizes differ enormously, and are dependent on body shape. I have big hips, smaller waist, wide shoulders but not huge chest.

That's what I'm doing @Whyisitsososohard . I'm done with short term strict diets, that's for sure.

Shodan · 13/03/2023 08:47

OP I am your height and was exactly that weight when I started my diet in January. I was a very comfortable size 14.

Am now 12st 2lb, and size 14 jeans have to be pulled in with a belt/crafty hair tie. Some of my jeans are 12s and fit perfectly.

BUT- I have a fair amount of muscle, especially in the tummy (which is starting to show again, yay!), which probably accounts for the size difference.

I would be interested to know how much Lycra clothing is involved in some of these answers!🤣

I'm 5'7" , 14 stone and size 18-20. My friend is the same height, two stone heavier, but wears 14-16. My husband, who generally doesn't notice that sort of thing, remarked one day, "I think Sue would look nicer if her clothes were looser"

user1497787065 · 13/03/2023 09:04

My mum and I are the same height, she can't fit in my clothes but I always weigh a stone more than her.

Christmasisshit · 13/03/2023 09:28

5ft 3.5 inches 10st 12lbs I'd say a size 14. Before children I was around 10st and a size 12. Lightest as an adult was 9st 7lb and was in some size 10s. Heaviest was 11st 11 and in size 16s pushing onto 18s

SnacksToTheMax · 13/03/2023 09:34

5ft 5in, 12 stone-ish, size 14 bottom and 12 top.

I was a steady 10.5 stone/size 10-12 before kids x2.

PotatoFacedWombat · 13/03/2023 09:35

5"11
11st
14/16

This is really fascinating to me!

catsandkid · 13/03/2023 09:36

5ft 2.5
Currently 9st 5 and a size 10 (but also a 12 if I want a comfier fit on bottoms). I'm on a diet since Jan (was 9st 11 in Jan) and aiming to get down to 9st.

Before kids I was 8st 7 and a size 8 on top, 10 on bottoms.

ChickenDhansak82 · 13/03/2023 09:43

Don't forget that muscle is far more dense than fat.

I'm 5'11, 64kg (just over 10 stone) and a size 10.

3 years ago I was 60 kg and still a size 10.

The difference is I took up kick boxing and lift some weights, so I have increased in mass but not changed my size.

xogossipgirlxo · 13/03/2023 09:43

163cm, 56kg, size 10 with alteration to widen the ribs area by 2cm each side (bought 2nd hand)

Bivarb · 13/03/2023 13:50

5'2, 13 stone 10 and a size 18.

Puccini1900 · 13/03/2023 13:54

5'6". 9.5 stone. Size 12

BunnyMum2000 · 13/03/2023 14:34

5 foot 5 inches.
Just under 9 stone.
Size 8

glossypeach · 13/03/2023 14:52

I’m 4’10, 7.3 stone. I’m a size 4/6 in ‘normal’ sizes and size 6 in petite.

clopper · 13/03/2023 14:56

I don’t know my exact weight as no scales, but last time I was weighed at the doctors I was 14.5 stone and am 5 feet, 3. However, I have to buy at least size 20 clothes due to having an enormous bust, whereas my legs are much slimmer.

EerieSilence · 13/03/2023 15:03

I'm 5ft and depending on the cut, it's XXS (German, UK or Scandinavian sizing) or XS (Italian, Slavic or French sizing).
Due to my job and lifestyle I do a pretty decent amount of exercise every day so really no problems keeping that weight, on the contrary, I need to watch that I get enough calories and protein as I do lots of hill walking.
For clothes, I hate Lycra but I like merino wool shirts and underwear and bottoms from Bergans or Johaug. Very comfy.

Nootella · 13/03/2023 15:05

5"3 and 10.5 stone. Fit into a 12 and some 10s on top

All my weight is in my legs , arse and top of arms 😭

Hydrangeatea · 13/03/2023 15:10

5'7" 11.9 and a size 14, I think I would have to get to about 11 stone before I was in a size 12.

I was 5'7" 14.9 and I was wearing a 16 but mainly joggers and stretchy clothes as it was during lockdown so very difficult to tell what size I was actually. I suspect a 18-20.

JudgeRudy · 13/03/2023 17:06

Justforlaffs · 12/03/2023 20:11

I'm 5"8" and currently weigh 11 stone 5 - I'm trying to lose a stone having already lost about 10 lbs.

Im a size 10 on top and 12 on the bottom and was about the same size pre-children, apart from one stage in my 20's when I was below 10 stone and a size 8 after eating very little for a while!

5ft 8 and a size 10/12 sounds fine to me though in fairness, I prefer the sizing the other way round.
Are you flabby?

ItsCalledAConversation · 13/03/2023 17:08

I’m 165cm, weigh 60kg and am a 10.

Tangentially I bought a 1970s/80s skirt in a charity shop last week (country casuals) in a size 10 and I’d not have a hope of getting it on, it fits my 9 year old daughter! I think sizes have got more generous over the years.
