Curious About Weight and Dress Size Comparisons

Sorry, I know this is very nosey, but a friend and I are both trying to lose weight.
And I was surprised to hear that I weigh a little more than her but I'm also a couple of inches taller and we're currently the same dress size.
So was wondering how much everyone's height and weight and dress sizes compare?
I'm 5ft 8in, 13 stone 3lb and a size 16.
(Can squeeze into size 14 trousers, if I don't mind losing all feeling in my legs!!)
Also what did you weigh before having children?
I was between 9 and 10 stone, so cannot believe I have gained 4 stone with 2 children

5'5" currently 14st 5lbs. Size 16.

Before dc1 I was 10st 2lbs and size 12. Shrunk to 9 St and size 10 after.

Dc2, 3 years later, 11st 3lbs and size 14.

newrubylane · 12/03/2023 21:12

5ft 5,in, 7 stone, size 4/6/8 depending what and where I'm shopping. I'd say a 6 most commonly.

Looneytune253 · 12/03/2023 21:13

Wow interesting. I'm 5'7 and 18 stone and a size 16. Shows everyone carries differently

Roarsomemore · 12/03/2023 21:16

5'4" and 10st 6lbs. Size 12 on top, size 14 on bottom. I don't like tight clothes though so never squeeze myself into anything. Used to do this as a teenager so learned not to do it.

There's such a variation in how people carry their weight. I've put a stone on over the last year and was always a 12 before. Thanks perimenopause! Trying to be kind to myself and realise that in the big scheme of things it really doesn't matter.

Chocolatefrenzy · 12/03/2023 21:16

I'm 5ft 2 and weigh 11.3 stones. Size 12 top 14 bottoms. 10 st 8 before kids and same dress size

It's all about body composition.

That intrigued me. Apparently I am same volume as women who are pretty much same height but they are 5-8.5 stone heavier. is all that difference supposed to be muscle?

BeReet · 12/03/2023 21:24

I am 5ft 0 and weight 10st 12 although I am working on losing more. I currently wear a size 14, sometimes a 16 on top as I have enormous bosoms 🙄

shakeitoffsis · 12/03/2023 21:37

I'm 5,7, 10 on top 12 on the bottom and about 10 stone 11lbs. Really want to lose half a stone, although I'm 6months pp and was back in my jeans within a week. It's all about how you feel isn't it.

KvotheTheBloodless · 12/03/2023 21:39

5'7", 8st 10lb, size 8

TheWorstWeek · 12/03/2023 21:42

I'm 5'6", 12st6lb and a size 10/12 on top, 12/14 on bottom. Before kids I was consistently 9st2lb and a size 10 for 5 years but that was almost 7 years ago now. I'd actually love to get to somewhere in the middle of the two weights but I think now I'd mostly be a size 12. Hips and ribs are wider than they once were!

I think it's so interesting how different weight/size can be and look from person to person.

Chelsea26 · 12/03/2023 21:44

it is about body composition, when I was young I was ill and very skinny. I used to get asked to get off the scales so they could re-zero them as my weight couldn’t be right. I looked like I weighed nothing and I was a solid 9 stone.

My only theory is that I was so ill that my body needed to prioritise other things. I was 5’5” at 13 and haven’t grown since, my sister is 5’9” and my brothers are ridiculously tall at 6’4 and 6’6. I think I really do have taller person bones in a short person body and they are heavier than expected

BlueFran · 12/03/2023 21:58

5'6", 10st 11lb, size 8-10

Everyone who has posted before me and is my height and weight seems to be a size 12-14? Those my size are 2 stone lighter Confused

MrsRandom123 · 12/03/2023 22:00

9stone (give or take a few lbs) size 8 but can fit a 6 in some places as the sizes are massive. I’m 5”4. At my heaviest (pre children) i was over 15 stone & an 18

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 12/03/2023 22:03

5’5’, 16st and size 16/18 apple shape with a large bust.

RestingMurderousFace · 12/03/2023 22:06

5'9, 9 stone 5, size 10

Albiboba · 12/03/2023 22:07

7 stone exactly basically, size size but 5”1

YerAWizardHarry · 12/03/2023 22:14

5ft6, around 14 stone and a size 16. Generally get an 18 in fitted trousers though.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 12/03/2023 22:26

5’7
10 stone 7lb
12 bottom, 14 top

Im pretty muscly.

mamnotmum · 13/03/2023 07:56

5'7
8st 8
Size 8

There was a newspaper article a few years back that showed women all the same dress size but different heights/builds. It was so interesting- some women looked so slim and others not so slim simply because of the height difference/build.

Siameasy · 13/03/2023 08:07

5’4” 9.11 size 8 or 10 on the high street but in traditional sizing I’m a 12.

Weirdly whenever I’ve been overweight one way I know is I’ll be between sizes. This is because I’m an apple and carry any extra on my stomach.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 13/03/2023 08:08

This is interesting. I’m 5’3”, 12.11 stone and a size 16. I’m currently losing weight, was 13.12 when I started but haven’t seen any change in my clothing size yet.

GrumpySausage · 13/03/2023 08:09

Im 5ft 8, 14stone 4 and a size 16 on bottom but a 14 on top. I do struggle with trousers though as I have a small waist but good solid thighs and hips so jeans are always too baggy round the waist.

pigalow27 · 13/03/2023 08:13

5' 5'' and 10 stone 9/10 lbs and size 12. Can wear a few loose 10s but usually need 12 for fat upper arms and big bum. Had children 14 years apart so was about 8 stone before first when I was 22 and then about a stone lighter than now before 2nd when 36.

whyhere · 13/03/2023 08:34

While this is interesting, there are so many variables that I'm not sure how helpful it is.

People like their clothes to fit in certain ways - loose or snug. The material the clothes are made from is also a big factor in how much 'give' there is.

At my heaviest I was 13st 12 and wore a size 16 (I'm 5ft 6). I've gradually lost weight and am now 11st 9 (don't intend to go any lower as, being older, I start to look ill and gaunt) but still wear a size 16. Having bought a couple of new items recently I know that I can now fit into a 14, but I prefer the looser fit of a 16 (and also like my current clothes, so don't want to stop wearing them!).
