knew that would get attention! you all think this is in reaction to the other m&t car parking thread, dont you?

well, i parked my car perfectly legally on a road next to a park. i needed to getto the pavillion and parking there meant it was a shorter walk than parking at the parks car park. i was late. when i came back, some one had left a note on my windscreen telling me topark in the council provided car park, andnot on their street.
so i wrote on it's back that i had a councils provided, valid tax disc that entitled me to park anywhere legally on the roads, and that included this one.

did i do right? OR SHOUld i have ignoree the sad bint? may bave been a bloke

on the windcreen of a car parked in a driveway there where the garage door was open.

Oh this happens to my DH. He parks on a residential street near his work because there is no other car park available and gets people coming out saying "You do know that this is a residential street you know" at which point he resists pointing out that the houses give it away.

They are probably deathly serious about the note, I like your style must tell DH about it.

I once did something similar when I had parked my car in a church hall car park (it was empty with no barriers) next to my brother's house as there were no parking spaces left.

It said something along the lines of

"This is a private car park for use of church members only when on church business - DO NOT park here again, under any circumstances."

I scribbled on the back

"It's great to know that the Christian spirit is alive and well, sorry for taking up your valuable space, which was clearly at a premium on a Tuesday afternoon (the car park was completely empty btw) but it was too far for me to walk with my sticks and I really didn't think God would mind...."

This happened to me. I parked perfectly safely and considerantly on a wide residential street and someone superglued a note to my window saying not to park in front of their house. There was no way I was causing them inconvenience. They were just feeling territorial and bolshie.

I knocked on their door ('Beware rotweiller here') cos I was cross. Luckily no reply!

superglued?? I'd have sent them a bill for a new windscreen - I think that would be a prosecutable offence actually - causing malicious damage to a person's private possessions?

I think aslong as you were not obstructing traffic or causing a problem to any pedstrians (we have this a lot where i live, that motorists have no conderation for those that walk and they block paths or crossings and then i have to walk my children and pushchair on the road)..not saying that you did this, if this wasn't the case then you are right, it was probably some bloke marking his territory, or hasn't anything better to do!!!

I've posted on here before about our parking prob - we live near Gatwick so we get cars left for 2 weeks i he summer, it's cheap (free) holiday parking! Never mind that it blocks the road up, makes it difficult for residents to gt out of their drives, and it's potentially a terrorist thread (well, maybe). BUT, they are parked legally, taxed etc. It's just annoying, but there's nothing we can do about it.

the woman who lives opposite me actually hardly ever goes out in case someone 'nicks' her parking space. If someone parks there while she is out then she gives me this 'look' as if I will sympathise at her rage or she will drive up behind it, hoot and wait for someone to come out and move - it makes me howl laughing ...especially since her dh parks his work van outside our house!

(We have a big drive though so I don't really care....)

I'd rather they park on the road than pull in right up on the path, so that pushchairs etc can't gt through. Cars may be nice and safe on the pavement but what about my dc who now have to use the road?

I have to admit I did something like that once when on a weekend break in London - didn't block anyone's drive though, or obstruct anything!

OK. You were of course quite right. You can park anywhere you like as long as it's legal. But.... being in the miserable position of living in a street without enough parking I do have some sympathy with the resident. There are times when we simply can't park our car anywhere without using the double yellows. And it's getting worse. However I would never stoop to leaving a note on anyone's windscreen -I'd probably just tut and sigh a bit

We have a problem with people parking here as well- house goes straight out onto anrrow road and there's no real parking between ehre and the school, so inevitable its treated as a free for all. TBH, only two things ever annoy me: If I cant park my own car and then am alte and told off by school (no off road aprking here), or when they occasionally aprk so close to the house we cant open the front door and get in or out (no rear access). Barring that Pukka is exactly right: we all pay road tax (well I assume we do) after all.

Aaaaaaaaaaargh Wisteria! I agree it sounds like a good idea (holiday parking is blardy expensive) but I wouldn't do it round here! The local kids with their keys out, or just fancying a bit of 'entertainment' on a slow night...I've even seen them running over all the cars parked on the road one night.
Actually we can get 4 cars on our drive, so it might be a little earner to let it out! Anyone want cheap parking this summer?

To be fair sparky - it was a suggestion made to me by someone who lived there as well so am not entirely devil spawn!

I think that is the risk that these people take... you can make quite a lot from letting out parking near Gatwick as there's now so much vandalism in the car parks at the airport....
