Sharing Hand wipes

DH and I use hand wipes when we return to our car after shopping, cinema, eating out etc. I usually take one out of packet, use it and hand it over to him to use. Never occurred to me that this is gross and unhygienic until adult DD saw us doing it and said it was disgusting. Is this gross? Genuinely didn’t think it was. I wouldn’t share with anyone else.

I share handwipes with my DH, but I wouldn't share with anyone else.

WinterMusings · 10/03/2023 16:41

Well, I don't think it's disgusting and if DH handed me one I'd use it without thinking about it twice, but when you think about it, it's probably not the best idea. But I'd say it's no worse than just not doing it at all which is what most people do.

i don't think I would have thought anything of it if I'd I'd seen my parents do it. But that would have been pre covid.

For DD is it covid related or general hygiene related or is she just Ewww at the though of anything intimate with you and DH?? Even things like sharing a bottle of water?

Oakorn · 10/03/2023 16:43

Do you hold hands?

moonpixel · 10/03/2023 16:54

It's weird because you have wiped any dirt/germs/whatever you are trying to clean from your hands onto the wipe, so he them spreads it onto his hands.

IkBenDeMol · 10/03/2023 16:58

The entire point of wipes is that they are single use. Not single use and then hand to your DH to have a wee shot too.

Wipes are SO bad environmentally. Just wash your hands when you get home and ditch the plastic.

DappledThings · 10/03/2023 17:28

Why on earth are you wiping your hands so often? That's weird.

AlwaysLatte · 10/03/2023 17:39

But if you're wiping germs off your hands surely you just throw it away?
But I have a bit of a bug bear about wipes in general, they're really bad environmentally. I don't like the thought of germs either and keep hand sanitiser in the car in a refillable pump bottle.

Twospaniels · 10/03/2023 17:42

Ditch the wipes and use gel or spray instead. You are unreasonable to use the same wipe.

After shopping etc before we get in the car we spray our hands with a sanitiser spray - and yes, we still wear masks in the shops and other crowded places - despite what a lot of people believe, Covid is alive and well. My adult daughter has it now, several work colleagues are off sick with it at the moment too.

IkBenDeMol · 10/03/2023 18:19

We know covid is alive and well, but many of us choose to rely on vaccination rather than masks and plastic wipes.

FlounderingFruitcake · 10/03/2023 18:23

It’s a bit contradictory to want to wipe your hands to clean but to then use a wipe presumably covered in the very dirt you’re wanting to remove. I just don’t get the logic. Whether it’s DH or a total stranger isn’t relevant. Wipes are also terrible for the environment. If you must use hand sanitizer. But personally I do neither, unless I’m about to eat and then I’d wash my hands in the loo.

We are vaccinated too, but husband is prone to bronchitis and chest infections so we take the extra precautions

Womencanlift · 10/03/2023 20:54

Of course it’s gross. But not because it’s your DH. It’s because you are transferring your dirt to him or vice versa when you pass the wipe over

It would never occur to me to share a wipe with anyone. Why wouldn’t you use a hand sanitizer gel? Having one of them in the car or your bag makes much more sense, both hygienic and less of an environmental impact

Travelationjubilation · 10/03/2023 20:55

I’ve never used hand wipes in my life so it wouldn’t bother me

smileannie · 10/03/2023 21:43

Thanks for your replies. I’m gonna switch to bottle of hand sanitizer cos it is a bit contradictory as pointed out plus I hadn’t even thought about environmental issue.
