Hello all

Trying to help my neice with her uni application and halls

Now today she was told she can't get halls as she hasn't clicked accept this place for her ucas first choice

It has been decades since I did this

Anyone know what this may be?
She has checked the ucas page and can't see the option. To accept her favoured uni

Sorry if this sounds ridiculous xxxxxx

Firstly has she heard back from all her 5 choices. If so has she selected her first and second choice?

If she has selected the uni in question as her 2nd choice she won't be able to choose accommodation

thisisasurvivor · 10/03/2023 15:34

Thanks she heard back from all and is looking for halls at the uni she wants

But can't see what to do online to put this as her preference

Has she selected her firm and insurance (first and second choices) on the UCAS site?

tired17 · 10/03/2023 15:38

She will need to actually choose her 1st and 2nd choices, I believe on UCAS, before she is able to choose accommodation. Most unis will only allow you to choose accommodation if you have selected them as your first choice (although there may be some that are different)

thisisasurvivor · 10/03/2023 15:39

That's what she has tried to do but there is no option??

Could you post a screenshot of her UCAS page and block out the personal info? Then we can show you where to click.

thisisasurvivor · 10/03/2023 15:41

Yes will try

Thanks so so much

You don't apply for accommodation through UCAS, you apply through the university's accommodation service. At least, that's how it was when my DC applied (the youngest is about to graduate).

Yes, but OP’s DD can’t apply for accommodation through the university until she’s accepted the offer on UCAS.

Yes so she tried to get halls at uni and they said she can't get

Has she firmed the offer?

thisisasurvivor · 10/03/2023 15:50

She can't find the place to click to firm the offer

Thanks all xxx

Has she had replies from all her applications?

Poblano · 10/03/2023 15:51

@thisisasurvivor did you have a look at the link I posted?

Overitallnow · 10/03/2023 15:52

Accept first/second choice on UCAS. Apply on Uni website with UCAS number with Hall choices.
Halls allocated after A level results and places confirmed.
Pretty sure this is how it works.

MrsCarson · 10/03/2023 16:20

First accept the offers 1st and 2nd. Then wait for the email from the Uni telling you to apply for the accommodations and get on fast. They don't send the email out till later in the year. That is what the 1st choice Uni told Dd to do.

Wonderful people

Thank you

Just to say. YOu can always ring the accomodation office and ask them. They are really helpful. My DC messed up the application and lost place in the queue - but still got a place right at the last minute. The accomodation office were really helpful.
Also you can ring the admission tutors. They don't mind parents/helpers ringing and you don't have to give all your details.
The UCAS website is also very good and they also have a helpline too. Best of luck to your niece. You are a very kind aunty
