Cryptic Job Adverts

I've only ever worked in the NHS, where job adverts tend to give detailed job description, expected hours, person spec, and salary details upfront before you apply. I'm finding the job adverts in the private sector very confusing, and almost cryptic. Trying to work out what the job actually entails is difficult! Is it expected that you contact the recruitment team to have a chat and ask lots of questions before you apply? Or do most people just send off applications and worry about the details later?

AIBU to expect a bit more clarity in a job advert? I just don't want to waste everyone's time by submitting an application for something that I don't actually want when I find out the details.
