AIBU?
To not buy mince in Sainsbury's
Abccde · 09/03/2023 19:03
1st world problems I know 🤣
But yuck - I wouldn't feed it to a dog.
The new vacuum pac might not affect the taste (I won't be finding out for a long time) but it certainly looks absolutely disgusting.
And it wasn't this colour in store - they were all horrible and brown! 🤢🤮

Am I being unreasonable?

@FurAndFeathers no, rude for the petty insults and sly digs. You can be factual and polite at the same time. You can even be opinionated and polite, contrary to popular MN belief.
But yes, you're probably right about the rest of it.
I think when you get used to seeing meat a certain way and then it's packaging is changed and it looks different it'll always make you a bit nervous to begin with, but everyone who's bought it seems happy that it's still fresh.

You've made my day!
I knew some woke would come on and complain about this. Only remembering mince in it's flowing lines..
Fucks sake. Don't eat it then.
But I'm really pleased that some sap is put out by the packaging of MINCE.
You know before BSE, it was probably all lips and arseholes and ground bones.
No, you probably weren't born.
It still is. BSE is in the nervous system which was the bits they removed. The prions don't congregate in their arse. The entire head is removed. Not their privates

You're right.
I'm all for lips and arseholes.
Mmm mmm.

I had this in my online shop. It was much easier to get out of the packet - just cut off one end with kitchen scissors and roll up the packaging from the other end to squeeze it straight into the pan. And no having to pick out the horrible piece of bloody paper you used to get underneath. I didn't find it more difficult to break up in the pan. Tasted fine.

Brown is the colour most meat should be, especially if its had time to rest. I'm much more wary of bright red mince etc as it usually means it's been pumped full of something. I'd always choose a slightly darker coloured steak or joint at the butchers.

Just referring to the poster who said much of the mince in Sainsburys is Irish and she would support British farmers, which I totally appreciate but I just thought I would mention that Irish beef is of the highest quality. They are all grassfed and are out in fields except for winter time. Factory farms don't exist! We never had BSE here. In fact you can't donate blood here in Ireland if you lived in UK during the 80s which of course a lot of Irish people did( and we are most greatful for that!)

I was delighted when I saw they were doing this the other day.
I'm probably target market for Sainsers (though tend to shop at Aldi).
I am yet to try it, but I can't see why it would be any different in taste. I kinda hope others follow suit because anything that reduces waste is a great idea as far as I'm concerned.

Sainsers? I like it!

It uses 55% less plastic which will save over 450 tons of plastic a year. Funnily my DH got an email about this just as I was reading this thread.
We bought some week before last, DH and ds said mince was lovely snd DH just said he preferred it and the mince was a better colour as air couldn't get to it.
