Envelope at work

So

I have won a prize at work it was a small internal competition to name something and I won some amazon vouchers. The fact that i won was in the company newsletter last week so had he read that he would have known I won, but whatever

We work in / out of the office and I wasn't in yesterday and won't be until tomorrow fine they have left them out for me - you can see a bit of the word amazon in the window of the envelope.

My boss just sent me a picture of the envelope - I said thanks can you put it in XX place for me. Then he asked me whats it for it looks like amazon vouchers.

AIBU for being miffed that he has to know EVERYTHING about everything why can't I just have an envelope in the office with my name on, he shouldn't really have looked to see what it was for. Maybe I am being precious (my DH thinks I am) but can I not just get 'post at work'???

YANBU. I've worked in several different workplaces and have never had a boss ask me what is in my mail (not that I get so much nowadays). Congratulations on the win!

EmbraceTheGrace · 09/03/2023 12:50

He may not have read the newsletter, I think you are being a bit silly if that's all there is to it

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/03/2023 12:51

I think it’s reasonable if you aren’t in the office every day for your manager to establish whether the post might be something which needs opening in your absence. “It’s the vouchers I won in the office competition the other week” is what you respond surely, no need for any miffed feelings.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 09/03/2023 12:52

Are you sure he's not just worried about the security of them if they have a financial value, and wants to make sure they are safe?

moonpixel · 09/03/2023 12:53

I would expect your boss to know you had won a work competition anyway.

he shouldn't really have looked to see what it was for.i

He didn't really look far. You said part of the work was visible, that would make it identifiable to anyway.

Fairyliz · 09/03/2023 12:54

But surely any ‘work’ post you get is to do with work? If you were get personal stuff you would have it delivered to home.

Sounds like your boss is just making general chitchat and even if he’s a really nosy sod, it is a work prize and lots of people will know about it if it’s been in the newsletter.

Do you think he will expect you to share the vouchers?

Champooforyou · 09/03/2023 12:55

Complete non issue.

bigbluebus · 09/03/2023 12:57

Do you say the same about your postman/woman? You do know that they know what all your post is, right?

GodSaveTheClean · 09/03/2023 12:59

Non issue and fine for him to ask.

Doyoumind · 09/03/2023 13:01

I can't understand why this has wound you up, particularly to the point you would post about it. YABU.

Fair enough maybe it's just the menopause!!!!

'They're vouchers for super jumbo tampons. I can't help that I have a wide-set vagina and a heavy flow'.

Ariela · 09/03/2023 13:54

I would just say 'Clearly you've not read company newsletter' and leave it at that

moonpixel · 09/03/2023 13:56

I actually live across the road from my postie and I feel really uneasy about the fact he knows where a lot of my mail comes from. Social security in particular but also motability and anything else related to finances.

Level7wannabee · 09/03/2023 13:57

My bosses are usually too busy to worry about such shit

Congrats though

holierthanthou73 · 09/03/2023 13:58

Over dramatic or what

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 09/03/2023 15:38

Depends. If it's that he's wanting to check if they're OK in an unlocked drawer or whatever, or of there's a policy where you're not allowed to accept gifts from suppliers / customers then YABU.

If it's part of a pattern where he's constantly asking either intrusive questions or micromanaging you to the point of asking about minutae like what's in an envelope, just for the sake of it, then YANBU.
