‘I’m confused’

AIBU to hate this in a passive aggressive way that it’s used on here?

’I’m confused that you were offended by this …’

‘I’m confused that you decided to take him back after his affair’

‘I’m confused that you spent your last £5 on sweets’

What they mean is ‘I think you were a twat to …’ so AIBU to think say this and stop with the simpering ‘confused’? I HATE it.

Because it’s polite and gentle

🤮

Anyone who also uses the word “silly” as a patronising response can also have a 🤮.

Yes, I hate the confused thing. And baffled.

Also, 'I'm struggling to understand ...' I always imagine an epic superhero type battle as the poster wrestles with alien concepts (in reality very basic) that don't feature in their life experience.

It’s basically an indirect way of saying ‘Explain your motivation in doing X’ or ‘The attitude to Y you are assuming is universal isn’t in fact shared by everyone — unpick your feelings/assumptions about it.’
