Did I just hear Sunak promise to investigate inappropriate and unsafe sex education in school?

I don't really listen to priminister questions, but I was just channel hopping waiting for the kettle to boil

So IABU to dance a little dance?

YABU - no you misheard, he didn't say that/ he said it but it is meaningless

YANBU - yes you heard it, yes it means something, dance away

Funding is irrelevant to this discussion. Surely it is just as cheap to deliver a sensible, safe, RSE lesson as it is to deliver an unsafe one?

I’d say it was far cheaper considering the amount of money schools are paying to the dodgy RSE providers - they all charge good money. Stonewall alone gets at least £100s of 000s from schools (£millions in total from all public sector contributions).

I wonder why that poster is not worried about that money which could be saved from the school budget.

It's interesting that as heads are complaining about budgets so tight that they're having to cut half a day from the week, yet schools are paying extortionate fees for Diversity Champions membership etc.

That is the level that passes for discussion on here.

let’s discuss these people shall we to start?

Maybe you could both work on your reading comprehension a bit. That is clearly not what is being said at all.

Nooyoiknooyoik · 10/03/2023 11:08

And for the people saying why not focus on porn instead…Porn is clearly an issue so all the more reason why it needs to be counteracted in schools by safeguarding and boundaries. Many children have no adult in their lives to provide boundaries, help them to say no and show them what to do and who to approach if they feel uncomfortable.

A long way from being told that everything is natural and anything goes.

Depends what you consider “inappropriate and unsafe” - primary age children learning that some other children have same sex parents is fine. Children learning about what is and isn’t ok when it comes to people touching them if is fine.

i do get confused by the pearl clutching

I have a number of friends who were sexually abused as children, maybe if they had been educated on what was happening to them, it may not have carried on. They didn’t have the language or context to explain what was happening.

I don’t think this is what he means.

Hobbi · 10/03/2023 11:11

@Ofcourseshecan

It's definitely what the MP who asked the question means.

Not all transpeople are invested in gender ideology. Some just want to quietly get on with their lives and hate what is being done in their name.

Then would they please speak up against it? Instead of leaving all the work to women?

Nooyoiknooyoik · 10/03/2023 11:14

Also for those worried that toned-down sex education will mean that abused children will lack the words to explain what’s happening to them…I don’t think it should. What it might mean though is that abused children will get to hear that what’s happening to them shouldn’t be happening to a child, and that the school will help them if they need help.

Instead of being told it’s perfectly normal and feels lovely.

OMG12 · 10/03/2023 11:16

Effiebreast · 10/03/2023 10:30

@WiIson 🙄 yeah right. How am I suggesting it ?
@OMG12 agreed.

Actually I didn’t. I was conflating Transrights activists who are pushing this stuff in schools with those things not trans people generally - it is essential to draw that distinction and the distinction is very very clear

Yes the group that the MP, Cates, represents wants to reverse same sex marriage rights, ban abortion, teach that sex is only for procreation and refuses to condemn gay conversion therapy. Children are bound to feel safer after that.

Hasn’t all this been addressed up thread?

You are totally ignoring the fact that Ofsted has now also spoken out.

Having claimed upthread that you would welcome Ofsted's involvement.

Interesting the parts of this thread that you choose to ignore.

Now you are just making things up.

Please produce some evidence to back your claims or retract.

Some do - Debbie Hayton among others. Trying to be heard among the shouty TRAs isn't easy though.

I'm happy ofsted are involved. That has zero relevance to the post I was responding to.

Making things up is a very important part of this thread, which would be much shorter without it.

Did you not say people were making it up that there is inappropriate RSE being taught too? So made up that the government is investigation it and now the Ofsted chief has warned about it?

There are people making up stories about inappropriate RSE being taught in schools.

Well I am an unhinged right wing Christian fundamentalist trans rights activist left winger apparently.

If you say so.

I think you are person who doesn't want to accept, for reasons that I can't quite grasp, that there has been inappropriate sex ed in schools.

Beyond that I've no idea what your issue is because your posts are so bizarre.

At least my posts are by some distance not the most bizarre on this thread.
