Did I just hear Sunak promise to investigate inappropriate and unsafe sex education in school?

I don't really listen to priminister questions, but I was just channel hopping waiting for the kettle to boil

So IABU to dance a little dance?

YABU - no you misheard, he didn't say that/ he said it but it is meaningless

YANBU - yes you heard it, yes it means something, dance away

@lifeturnsonadime

"Some people really don't want to get to the bottom of what is happening.

Some people are very invested in denying it is happening even though it clearly is."

Why are you persisting with this obvious lie?

Ah, I see we’ve arrived at the stellar defence arguments of:

  1. X never happens
  2. X almost never happens, it doesn’t need so much attention
  3. X happens but not like that, you are exaggerating
  4. X doesn’t matter, you need to focus on Y and Z

Very useful, I like a good map.

Going round in circles.

Some people really don't want to get to the bottom of what is happening.

Some people are very invested in denying it is happening even though it clearly is.

It is certainly very clear that some people don't want to get to the bottom of what is happening, they are quite unwilling to discuss the motivations of Mariam Cates for example and seem to get terribly upset when other things she has said are quoted.

I'd be exceedingly grateful if you could share with us the directive from DfE to schools that instructed schools to push trans activism.

Did you miss this link earlier, www.civilserviceworld.com/in-depth/article/theres-been-a-lot-of-listening-jonathan-slater-on-becoming-civil-service-lgbti-champion

Or do you reject this as well because it doesn't support your bias that this is a far right extreme christian agenda.

Hobbi · 09/03/2023 18:35

@jgw1

I had an Ofsted last year. They liked our unisex toilets but told us all we weren't recognising enough genders or corrupting children sufficiently.

jgw1 · 09/03/2023 18:36

Are we discussing this now, and were discussing "Stop the Boats" earlier in the week so that we don't disucss the massive u-turn the government has done on not giving public sector workers pay rises?

Unless I am misunderstanding, it is an article about what happens in a government department and not what happens in schools. I am not sure I understand the relevance to achieving an evidence based RSE curriculum in schools that prepares young people for the world that they will live in.

You don't find it interesting to consider why the Tory party have suddenly introduced this as a series of questions at PMQs, when it could have been done 1 or 10 years ago. Each to their own.

10 years ago no one was teaching kids that if a boy likes pink he's really a girl, or there are 73 genders etc.

No not really. I don't believe there was such a level of parental concern 10 years ago.

I'll continue to care about child safeguarding. You do you.

As others have said gender ideology wasn't being taught as fact 10 years ago and nor was how to choke your partner.

As Rainbow puts it -

I'll continue to care about child safeguarding. You do you.

You really can't work out how Stonewall being heaving involved in the DofE could influence what goes on in schools.

And you are not prepared to accept any evidence that it has either.

Critical thinking, when it comes to child safeguarding, is not your strong point.

Are you refering to a school in jurisdiction other than the UK that taught about 73 genders?

Until 2021 schools in China did not teach RSE at all. I am not sure of the relevance to a discussion about UK schools.

I am eagerly waiting the evidence that the DfE has directed schools to teach trans activism. None has been produced yet, but I will continue to patiently wait.

But there was 10 years ago, as there still is a desperate need to review RSE teaching in schools so as to ensure it was as good as it possibly can be because outcomes for our young people in terms of teen pregnancies, sexual abuse and so on is worse than in other comparable countries.

In fact it is perfectly possible, perhaps even likely if the government that is so keen on an investigation now, had, had it when experts were recommending it, many of the concerns that you have would have been avoided.

The very absence of guidance, curriculum and vetting of resources/providers may not be by coincidence.
^^
The way some of you argue, I can’t help but think bad faith and wilful inability to try and stay on track and debate properly.

Rainbowshit · 09/03/2023 19:27

I think that very unlikely. 10 years ago there wasn't such a push to "queer" sex education.

It’s not new.

7Worfs · 09/03/2023 19:29

It also wasn’t mandatory until a few years ago. I wonder who influenced that decision.

Given that there is the same absence of guidance, national curriculum and vetting of resources/providers in all other areas of what schools teach, I would suggest you are jumping to unsupported conclusions.

The 1976 and 1993 acts that made sex and relationships education in maintained schools in England and Wales compulsory I would suggest were more than a few years ago.
There was also interesting guidance on the subject published during the 2nd world war.

I've heard there is a push in geography to teach that the Earth is flat.

Yes I agree teaching gender ideology and that humans can change sex is very like teaching that the earth is flat. Both unscientific nonsense. Glad you agree. 🤗
