Question!! Does anyone know about MRSA?

Has anyone ever had an mrsa skin infection? How is it treated?

ive tried Googling and can’t find any info. I don’t know for sure if I have mrsa or not (waiting on a swab) but starting to suspect it as no antibiotics have helped the infection. If it does turn out to be mrsa, can it still be treated with antibiotics? Do you just have to take the antibiotics for longer to get rid of it? Thanks in advance!

OP- could you tell us what skin infection/rash/area you are referring to? Its very difficult to advise whether an oral/IV/wash would be advised when we don't have a clue what part of the body is being affected?

Sorry I hadn’t realised it would be different on different parts of the body.

It’s a wound on the back/side of the my head, on the skin directly above my skull bone (it’s not on a squishy muscley area IYSWIM). It’s definitely infected with something- it’s not really a rash, it’s more like an open wound.

A wash treatment would be my preferred option because it sounds easiest but not sure how tricky it would be with hair etc in the way

If the wound/rash was say around the genitals, then testing and treatment would certainly be different to if its on the torso or between the toes or on your scalp! How did your wound start OP? Did you cut/graze the area and it never healed? Did it just appear? Do you have dandruff or any skin/health conditions? Diabetes, immunosuppressed, thyroid issues?

Yes that makes sense when I think about it like that! I have dandruff but not usually on this location. Not sure if that’s how it started or if it was a cut that went a bit rogue. It’s just not gone away. No diabetes or thyroid problems. I did have to take some oral steroids for a while a few months ago but it was low dose.

Hi Op did you get a swab?
Or further treatment?

I have been to the doctor twice now, once for sores on my nether regions which were treated with flucloxacillin and I use an emollient wash now there. Then a month later I have a boil/infected spot on my upper thigh which is so painful. I went back, again prescribed me fluclox, I've taken the treatment for three days now with no improvement at all. It's still as red and sore as day 1. I have drawn a line around it and it's not spreading but it's not reducing either.
Am pretty scared it's mrsa as the tablets are having no effect.

So just wondering what happened with you OP? I'm going to try and see a doctor tomorrow
