You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Yep I’d have a light tea for sure. I would be hungry again before 7pm.

Ah, but when you have a little poolnof gravy left on the plate. You out the slice if bread on it, flip it and then eat it up a delicious roast dinner gravy soaked slice 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋

Try it sometime

Maybe it's a "poor" thing, we grew up poor a d had this at the end of roast dinners perhaps to fill us up and get the goodness of the gravy??

I will give it a go - is the cheap white bread OK?

ortonym · 05/03/2023 18:21

Down the chippy at half 5. 8 pints of Guinness in the pub and then a kebab on the way home.

Is what I won't be doing.

Deadringer · 05/03/2023 17:21

No matter how nice or big the meal is I can only eat so much in one sitting, so yes I would want a sandwich or something later on, maybe around 7.

Same. I hate feeling full so even if there was loads of food available I wouldn’t eat more than at any other meal. So yes, I’d need to eat again in the evening.
My husband on the other hand would eat so much at lunch that he’d still be full at bed time.

Dibbydoos · 05/03/2023 18:21

Yes, a salad tea after roast dinner is normal.

EyesOnThePies · 05/03/2023 18:21

I’d have a light supper, soup or salad or possibly a bowl of cereal and an apple, something that involved minimal preparation and washing up. Can’t be doing with kitchen-work more than once a day!

Murraydeservedit · 05/03/2023 18:22

yes.

But I’m a fat, greedy fuck. I’d want to eat an hour later if I’m honest.

SnarkyBag · 05/03/2023 18:22

Just coming on as a fellow bread in gravy after roast supporter. It was definitely a poor household thing for us growing up but probably one of the nicer aspects of being skint.

I would eat again after a roast at 2pm even if it was just some cereal or toast.

ChildminderMum · 05/03/2023 18:22

Yeah of course Confused

It's normal to eat a meal every 5 or 6 hours isn't it?

Whyisitsososohard · 05/03/2023 18:22

Yes I've had bariatric surgery and can only eat so much in one go though. So I can't / don't really do snake meal thing.

Although honestly probably would need something for dinner later on prior to surgery.

fajitaaaa · 05/03/2023 18:22

If I'm completely honest it probably depends how fast it has moved through my system that day.

CheshireCat1 · 05/03/2023 18:22

That’s lunch, I’d definitely want dinner.

Hydrangeatea · 05/03/2023 18:22

Laiste · 05/03/2023 17:30

Really?
At the end of dinner - slice of white bread plonked onto plate and a bit more gravy poured on and spread around and press it to soak it up and ... yum 😄

Good god! I never knew this was a thing......

Snake meal?

IkBenDeMol · 05/03/2023 18:23

Crackling, yorkies, potatoes AND bread? my goodness, after eating all of that I wouldn't need to eat until summer!! 🙄

back in the real world, yes I would. Maybe not a whole meal but definitely something like a toasted bagel with peanut butter/banana.

Presumably they’ll get hungry or feel light headed because they aren’t used to that, their metabolism is different, any number of reasons including the fact that they might just not want to go that long without food.

Yeah I'd struggle on 18 hours with no food because I'm not used to it, and I'm pretty active.

I didn't have a roast today but if I had, I spent the afternoon cycling for a couple of hours with the kids and then going for a run while they had swimming lessons. And I'll go to the gym before breakfast tomorrow. I can't imagine doing all that on a 2pm meal and then nothing for 16 hours.

JMSA · 05/03/2023 18:23

Definitely, but then I'm a greedy fattie.

grumpycow1 · 05/03/2023 18:24

Not a full meal but maybe some cheese and crackers and fruit, or soup and a piece of bread.

Laiste · 05/03/2023 18:24

@simbobs · Today 18:16
I had a roast dinner at around 2pm and will want to eat again later. No bread, though (never heard of that) nor do I have Yorkshire pudding with pork.

Ah. Yes. Yorkshire's should be with beef and stuffing should be with chicken. But if family didn't get yorkshires and stuffing with every roast there'd be an outpouring of disappointment.

I think the only thing we stick to rule about is the apple sauce. Only with pork.

@DistantSkye Exactly. I am nowhere near that active but I think plenty of people aren’t used to going that long without food, and would be hungry in the evening or wake up feeling a bit wobbly. It’s totally normal and not in any way a failing which I think is being implied a bit.

Laiste · 05/03/2023 18:25

And horseradish with beef. We stick to that.

toomuchlaundry · 05/03/2023 18:25

@LuckySantangelo35 what do you eat, as you seem horrified if someone has more than one meal a day? Many people eat the standard 3 meals a day, with one of those meals being larger than the other two. Other people do eat differently, sometimes following the latest fad or celebrity diet.

Yeah even on days when I'm not that active I'd still need to eat more often 😂 I am not used to one meal a day or skipping meals!
