You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Even after Christmas dinner I'll eat in the evening 🐷

Yes, absolutely. I'd be hungry by 8pm again and would probably have scrambled eggs or similar

Scrambled egg with toast on the side was my Sunday evening meal throughout my childhood. Either that or left over roast meat sandwiches. 😋

Iamblossom · 05/03/2023 18:56

Had a huge roast lunch in the pub.

I've since smacked on Jacobs crackers and some roast beef Crinkle cut Crisps.

I'm trying to leave it at that.

But I am hungover.... 🙄

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 05/03/2023 18:56

If I have a roast that early in the day I would normally have a couple of drinks with it- would be a meal out for an occasion, an invitation somewhere or something of that nature. Tends to put me off eating much after that.

Maybe an apple or pear later on. If you didn't have dessert I might have a bit of chocolate.

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 05/03/2023 18:57

I'd have a light supper. Somewhere between 8 or 9 PM, probably.

Vetiver · 05/03/2023 18:59

Yes, definitely! I’d probably have more of a lunch type meal, but would happily eat anything really… otherwise I’d wake up ravenous in the middle of the night!

KickHimInTheCrotch · 05/03/2023 19:01

We had a roast at lunchtime today and I've just served up toasties and veg sticks/salad bits for tea. But the DC don't pile their plates up for a roast, they eat a normal amount of food.

Gooseysgirl · 05/03/2023 19:01

Yes.. we all had a big meal today at 2pm and just having some roasties now.

Gooseysgirl · 05/03/2023 19:01

*Toasties not roasties

Aprilx · 05/03/2023 19:02

Yes I would have something like toast at about 8:30pm.

Funkyslippers · 05/03/2023 19:03

Jamieleecurtain this wouldn't be your typical lunch portion though. It's a roast dinner, so the same size as a normal cooked dinner, whatever time of day

Jooliusreezer · 05/03/2023 19:05

Bit of toast maybe, but nothing much.

HeadacheEarthquake · 05/03/2023 19:05

Had a huge roast out with starters at 2, not starving yet but have sushi and gyoza in the fridge in case we do get snacky. Which we will.

Christmascracker0 · 05/03/2023 19:07

Take an hour/hour and a half break then go back for pudding 😂

But in the evening I would need cheese and crackers or cereal or something!

StaunchMomma · 05/03/2023 19:09

Yes, but I tend to go to bed late, like 12-1ish, and I wouldn't eat an unusually large roast. I have a friend who could eat a huge, piled up carvery and follow with a big pudding. She's really skinny yet I'm a fat knacker and couldn't finish half that she eats

Nothing major that evening, though - beans or toast or a sandwich.

blacktreacles · 05/03/2023 19:10

we had a roast at 3, have just got in and have shared a cupcake that my friend left over for me earlier.

I voted yanbu because if the cupcake wasn’t dropped over we would probably just be having a cuppa, and to be honest I regret eating it😅

Everyones appetites are so different though!

EffortlessDesmond · 05/03/2023 19:13

We eat Sunday lunch at about 4.30, and there's only fridge snacks available after but it's rare for anyone to want more food.

Sceptre86 · 05/03/2023 19:13

Yes I'd eat again. Perhaps something light like an omelette or toast but yes I would eat again.

MrsRinaDecker · 05/03/2023 19:14

I wouldn’t want another full meal, but would have a snack. I had a similar sized meal at lunchtime and I’m about to get yogurt, granola and banana. I think that’s usually what people mean when they say ‘won’t want to eat again’, not necessarily nothing, but not another dinner either.

JaceLancs · 05/03/2023 19:15

Possibly a light evening meal - soup or salad or sandwich/toast

JaffaCake70 · 05/03/2023 19:17

Cheese and crackers or a couple of slices of toast in the evening for me, regardless of how big my lunch was.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 05/03/2023 19:17

cryinginhmart · 05/03/2023 18:29

@LuckySantangelo35 seriously, do one with your picking through the thread jumping on comments to incredulously question people who eat more than you think is appropriate. It might be fun for you but as someone with an eating disorder I see your behaviour as deliberate and shitty. Stop it.

There was another thread about over/under-eating the other day and she was all over that with the same batty routine. Obviously doesn’t have a very healthy relationship with food.

UpperLowerMiddleClass · 05/03/2023 19:17

It’s interesting there’s a lot of replies on this thread along the lines of ‘I wouldn’t want to eat a proper meal in the evening, but maybe toast or a sandwich’.

In my mind toast or a sandwich is a proper meal, do other people not see it this way? A couple of slices of toast with peanut butter or cheese, or a decent sandwich, could easily have the same calories and be as filling as a hot meal.

Fwiw after a roast at 2pm I’d eat a sandwich or similar around 8pm. I’ve always preferred eating something at both lunch and dinner time rather than trying to have a big meal at one and nothing at the other mealtime.

sealon82 · 05/03/2023 19:18

I wouldn't want another meal later on but maybe a couple of biscuits with my coffee.

Mapletreelane · 05/03/2023 19:18

Is this not the very reason crumpets were invented? To solve this problem 🤣
