You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Op I haven't had bread at the end of a roast since I was a kid. Might bring it back.
Used to have bread with a lot of meals actually, especially garlic bread with pasta meals and a cob with loads of butter when we had fish and chips. Probably why my arse could have its own postcode now tbh BlushGrin

Ragwort · 05/03/2023 18:38

I wouldn't be hungry and I wouldn't 'need' anything ... but I might pick at something ... probably why I am three stone overweight Blush. I can quite happily exist on one meal a day .. I don't because I am greedy. I don't lead a particularly active lifestyle and I know I eat far too much. sitting here with a large bowl of tortilla chips and homemade quacamole as a pre dinner snack.
I am not being a competitive under eater .. I just know I feel so much better if I don't overeat.

SettlingForAnotherMuffin · 05/03/2023 18:39

No. The DCs yes. Me no.

I can really only manage one meal a day now with a small (toast) breakfast. And before anyone thinks I am a competirive under eater I weigh over 13 stone at 5 ft 4!

Jem57 · 05/03/2023 18:39

Never ever seen anybody eating bread with a roast dinner

Notonthestairs · 05/03/2023 18:39

"But certainly not another hot, cooked meal. "

But nobody is suggesting another full cooked meal apart from you Lucky.

Unless you are the type to consider a toastie or a crumpet cooking.

toomuchlaundry · 05/03/2023 18:40

@LuckySantangelo35 but very few posters. if any, are saying they are going to cook a full on evening meal after having a roast at lunchtime. Most people are saying they would have a sandwich, crumpet or some form of snack, which could include fruit like you would have.

We tend to have a roast as an evening meal, so we can do activities during the day, so we would have a light lunch, like a salad or sandwiches, then have full on roast in the evening. If we happen to have the roast at lunchtime, usually if we have to fit round DS work shifts, we would then have salad/sandwiches in the evening.

ArtixLynx · 05/03/2023 18:40

i'd have something, i'm usually awake until 2am (adhd/insomnia) so no way i'd go 12hours with no food, then be able to sleep.

I'd have some toast or something about 7pm.

Bellaboo01 · 05/03/2023 18:41

Yes - I would have something light later (maybe a sandwich or maybe cheese and crackers).

Why?

Murraydeservedit · 05/03/2023 18:41

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 18:26

@Murraydeservedit

really? An hour later?

Yes.

I’m not proud of it. But I don’t tend to eat due to hunger.

fajitaaaa · 05/03/2023 18:42

Laiste · 05/03/2023 18:32

@fajitaaaa yep cheap white bead is fine. Best IMO!

Great thanks! I'll give it a go next time. Might leave out the Yorkshires so there's gravy left

luckylavender · 05/03/2023 18:43

Off the point, but bread for dipping with a roast? I've never heard of this.

Ragwort · 05/03/2023 18:44

Being totally honest I don't really know what 'hunger' feels like, I am so used to eating three meals a day plus snacks that I never get properly hungry. I have read that it is good to know what hunger feels like so that you only eat when you need to and don't overeat because you just enjoy tasty food ... I've never tried it out Blush. I deliberately ate less yesterday .. a small bowl of homemade soup at 7pm .. no bread or anything else .. a small breakfast of Greek yogurt and a couple of dried apricots this morning ... nothing else until a late lunch at 2.30pm today and I still wasn't 'hungry'.

BadNomad · 05/03/2023 18:46

I wouldn't eat again until the 14th.

MeAndTequila · 05/03/2023 18:47

I had dinner at 2 ish today, roast potatoes, mash, veg, Yorkshire pudding, lentil and mushroom wellington. We’ll still eat something later, maybe 8ish. I usually have something like crisps and veg sticks with dips or peanut better on toast.
My son had a roast beef dinner and he’s just had a cheese salad wrap and some Brazil nuts.

Jamieleecurtain · 05/03/2023 18:47

I would eat again but only something small. I know some people are saying they would just eat a regular portion even if it’s a roast but I couldn’t do a roast justice if I had my usual lunch portion! A chicken drumstick, couple of roasties, some parsnips, cauliflower cheese, lovely veg, red cabbage, Yorkie, delicious thick gravy (ok I concede this may just be our standard roast and others are more conservative) - even a tiny portion of each is much bigger than my average lunch.

As an aside, nice work on sitting on the fence OP. We have a rare AIBU thread which hasn’t descended into a total bunfight defending or attacking the OP.

Booooot · 05/03/2023 18:47

Yeah I’d have an evening meal!! For some reason my body digests roast really quickly and it’s the one meal that always makes me starving hungry again a few hours later.

honeyytoast · 05/03/2023 18:47

Yes I would probably want to eat again after 8 hours

Laiste · 05/03/2023 18:48

@Ragwort that's interesting. Do you drink a lot of fluid during the day?

I've read that hunger is often a misinterpretation of actually being thirsty, and when i regularly drink the daily amount of water we are meant to (2lts isn't it?) i don't tend to feel hungry at all much either.

piedbeauty · 05/03/2023 18:48

I'd have a cup of tea and some crisps in the evening. That's all.

Murraydeservedit · 05/03/2023 18:49

BadNomad · 05/03/2023 18:46

14th?

Hold out until at least the 20th, you glutton.

MsPrism · 05/03/2023 18:49

If I'd had a roast mid afternoon, I might have cheese and biscuits, or soup or something in the evening, we eat our roasts in the evening though, so this rarely comes up.

Same. I’ve said above I’d eat again in the evening but actually it doesn’t come up as an issue because if we have a Sunday roast (rarely) it’s just at our normal dinner (evening meal) time. I would still have lunch on a day we were having a roast for an evening meal though, so still 3 meals a day.

Yes I would have something before bed like over 80% of the voters on here.

I might even have a mumsnet massive salad 🥗

Bread with a roast? Maybe that’s the secret of not eating for the rest of the day?

Bandanadrama · 05/03/2023 18:52

I'd have something like crumble and custard later on .
