I'm going away soon for 14 days. I've never been away for this length of time before. It's usually been between 2 and 10 days.

What's the longest time you have been on holiday for ?

Backpacking for two years. Loved every second but it did impact my ability to enjoy shorter holidays for a long time because anything shorter than four weeks, just felt like a phaff. Going to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore for three weeks this summer and I cannot wait.

Meandfour · 05/03/2023 04:10

DH and I did 4 weeks in the US when we were 21.
We usually do 14 nights a couple of times a year; April & August, and then either a week or 10 days, depending on what we can book around the school holidays.

Appleblum · 05/03/2023 04:16

8 weeks in Europe.

ChillysWaterBottle · 05/03/2023 04:17

6 weeks travelling around North Africa

2 months in Australia

Both when I was a lot younger and didn't have children!

Tezza1 · 05/03/2023 04:21

Four months travelling around Europe and UK. Did this twice. Another time three months travelling. Shorter trips to US, Russia, Canada, Asia. I'm Australian, so wanted to make the flight worth my while.

pompomdaisy · 05/03/2023 04:27

3 months backpacking in SE Asia and Australia on my own.

barmycatmum · 05/03/2023 04:27

Wow 2 years! Amazing!! Was that a holiday all the time or a working holiday?

Remaker · 05/03/2023 05:29

I live in Australia and we tend to have longer holidays as everything is so far away! I went backpacking for 10 months in my 20s. Did 8 weeks US and UK when I was 30. DH and I had a 5 week honeymoon. We took kids to Europe for 7 weeks as preschoolers, to US for 6 weeks when they were 9 & 11. Then 4 weeks in Europe with teens in 2019 and again in 2022. If I have to fly for 24hrs then 4 weeks is my minimum!

garlictwist · 05/03/2023 05:33

About ten days. However I have the whole of august off this year and am going away for a month. I'm so excited as I have never had this much time off work (even though I am not able to take any other holiday until then as I have none left).

Callmenat · 05/03/2023 05:42

14 days, I normally take about a week before I really relax and forget about work

sashh · 05/03/2023 06:16

Four weeks, I went to South America.

KimberleyClark · 05/03/2023 06:40

4 weeks to NZ/Aus.

Zcity · 05/03/2023 06:44

8 months, travelling Asia & Europe.

Zcity · 05/03/2023 06:46

Honeymoon was 6-week USA roadtrip, and planning 4-week trip in Canada for DH's birthday.

I must like long trips!

mondaytosunday · 05/03/2023 06:46

A month to Australia. The kids were a bit on the young side (1 and 3) but my husband had a sabbatical and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 05/03/2023 06:49

3 weeks to Oz. It was to see if we liked it there. Eventually lived there for two years.

My general holiday is 2 weeks AI. But, we are UK holidays for now.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 05/03/2023 06:51

3 months. Pre-kids. Also pre-DH. I loved traveling alone.

grannycake · 05/03/2023 06:52

I retired last year - 2 6 week trips across Europe in our camper van. Didnt go further than Wales until my three kids were teens - your time will come

KvotheTheBloodless · 05/03/2023 06:55

A month.

I actually prefer a week to 10 days though, I get very stressed out of my routine for too long.

QuentininQuarantino · 05/03/2023 06:59

We had a 3 month holiday to a gorgeous English city once where DH was working on a placement, the accommodation and travel were paid by his work and it covered the school holidays and was amazing, the kids and I made friends and did parks and museums and cafes for 3 months!

abroad, probably 4 weeks, but that’s to a family property, so we only paid flights.

a full price “normal” holiday I think 2 weeks is our longest.

i never went “travelling” and I yearn to. I’ll have my gap year when the kids have left home!

8 weeks.
5 years ago, me and my DD2 (aged 23 at the time) took off round the USA and Canada, staying with internet friends and in Air Bnbs and hotels.. visiting people I had been chatting to for 20 years, and seeing the places we wanted to see.

It was my 50th birthday treat and recovery from a breakdown for DD2.

It was wonderful and we came home refreshed, renewed and I recommend that everyone should 'escape' once in their lives Grin (DD2 now has a toddler and I'm Granny care so no chance ever again!!!)

That sounds truly wonderful, what a great thing to help with DSs healing.

Me 16 days - Thailand

Honoraryuce · 05/03/2023 07:06

4 weeks in Central America when i was younger. The main differences were needing to find places wash clothes and having enough books but I found loads of places you could take a book and leave a book.

Three months. I had booked one week with kids in Majorca. Weather was amazing so did a deal with hotel, and stayed all summer. It was quite amazing. I could work off laptop, they could play and it was bliss.

Wow, amazing you could just stay and work.

MaryShelley1818 · 05/03/2023 07:13

3.5 weeks when I went to Australia. Lots of 3wk trips to America (East and West coast).

I think there's obviously a big difference between a 'holiday' which was your question and people who went travelling or worked abroad which could obviously run into months/years.

I think 14 days is standard and a pretty normal holiday length although it's been a while since I had one, this year we have 3 x 7 day holidays instead plus 5 days in the lakes.
