I may be trying to kite a derailment a little bit but I also feel like it deserves its own thread?

You are just being goady and I'm almost certain you have never worked in forensic services. ABA forms part of PBS plans and it changes lives without it some people would never be able to leave locked units for time in the community. With the strategies people end up moving on to fulfilling lives in the community and not in hospital !!!

All of that can happen through non abusive therapy

How? Talk me through it ? What evidence based therapies work for severe ASD and dangerous behaviours of concern (many of which are illegal )

I'm really curious why you are just replying to a thread you started with the same one line over and over again? It gives the impression that A. You don't believe on what you are saying or B. You don't have any clue what you are talking about.

C. People keep saying the same thing therefore the answer stays the same

You have only suggested play therapy , we do already use play therapy everyday mostly as engagement and distraction but on a 20 stone 6 foot 4 male who has urges to be sexually inappropriate and is highly physically aggressive. Play therapy doesn't wholly fix the safety concerns of these people eventually reintegrating into the community. I think you are looking from this from the lense of HFA in children and low support needs not people who are sectioned, or have committed crimes or do things like smearing , bang their heads , forced vomiting.

Another example of us HFA hijacking the care of autistic people.

Just because my child is severely autistic doesn't change the science

Science of what?

Cognitive science?

Fifi0102 · 04/03/2023 23:25

Some of the strategies we use are tailored communication methods , play therapy medication and PBS which is a form of ABA. All together we have had great success of moving people out of hospitals , huge reduction in physical restraints, minimal usage of sedatives and integration back into the community. In an ideal world no one would need any therapy but we base the decisions on doing the least harm and improving quality of life.

Oh OK. I'll take it that you don't actually have the knowledge to back up what you are saying then. I had next to know knowledge of ABA prior to reading this thread, my ds has asd and adhd but thankfully he has never had need of any therapy and at 16 is doing fantastic and is really happy. After reading this thread though I think ABA absolutely has a place in enhancing the lives of some autistic people.

You don;t know what ABA is and any further duscussion with you is futile.

What is your motive behind creating this thread? Did you make this thread to wind people up? It seems like you’re not interested in any discussion regarding ABA. Are you interested to find out what Aba actually is and what it actually involves?

To kite a derailment. Like I said in the OP
