Cheapskates on Vinted

I'm having a (quite protracted) clear out and have been listing stuff on Vinted.

I listed a pair of brand new unworn leather slides, which I bought from Marks and Spencer for £39.50, for £10.

I've had lots of favourites and four people asking if I'd sell for £6. It's already a bloody bargain!

List it for £15

People like to feel they are getting a bargain, they can then offer you at 10 and everyone's a winner.

Pugdogmom · 02/03/2023 21:35

Yes they are a pain, but people will try it on. I just politely refuse their offer. Funnily enough they bought it at the asking price..🤣

AdInfinitum12 · 02/03/2023 21:36

If you don't like people making offers, perhaps Vinted isn't for you. It's a bargain in your eyes but some people are low on funds and use vinted to keep them/their family clothed, there's absolutely nothing wrong with making offers when that's the point of the platform.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/03/2023 21:36

People always do it, vinted, ebay, everywhere.

Igniteyourbones · 02/03/2023 21:37

People want to feel they are getting a deal. If you are hoping to sell for £10 then list for £12. Then people will offer closer to £10.

IceCreamWoes · 02/03/2023 21:37

I've never understood why people get annoyed with offers. People have the right to ask, and you have the right to decline. By the time you add postage and fees, and the fact you'd need to resell it on and recoup the cost of it didn't suit/didn't fit, I can see why you want it for as cheap as chips

Some people would rather give it charity than sell for too cheap, some people would just rather make a few pounds and get rid. No harm asking. Noone is forcing you!

NoInvitesEver · 02/03/2023 21:37

I've had little luck with Vinted.
One sale the buyer never picked up from the parcel collection point so it came back to me and I didn't get paid as delivery didn't complete.
The other sale made an offer, I accepted, and they never paid.
Given up!

Agree with this. They’re doing nothing wrong sending offers!

Dacadactyl · 02/03/2023 21:39

Nowt wrong with low offers. If the seller doesn't like it, they don't have to accept.

Agree you should list higher than a tenner if that's what you really want though.

pastypirate · 02/03/2023 21:44

I make offers on everything I like! I also sell stuff and happy to consider offers made to me.

Fgs 2nd hand gear is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it!!

Namechangehereandnow · 02/03/2023 21:48

I listed something for £1 … someone offered 80p 🤷‍♀️🙄
The item cost £18 new, was still excellent - the ‘buyer’ argued it wasn’t a good deal at £1 🤔🤣<<shakes head in disbelief>>

xsquared · 02/03/2023 21:55

I usually list for much higher than I am willing to accept because there will inevitably be potential buyers wanting it for 50% of the asking price. I usually counter offer back with 75% and they accept.

Some CF did try to offer 1/6 of the RRP on a brand new pair of boots I was selling at already less than 50%. I didn't even bother counter offering.

SeriouslyLTB · 02/03/2023 21:55

I sell a lot on Vinted and always list above what I want. Also when someone favourites an item I message them with discounted offer. It’s kinda the Vinted USP. You don’t have to accept.

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 02/03/2023 21:58

Some try to fit postage in as well so if they have bjdget 10, they can offer 6 and sometimes it works, then with postage it's a tenner.

Was it a pair of gold sandals in a size 6?!! I bought some but they arrived at the collection point waaaay after I needed them and I then forgot to go and get them...
Think I still got charged though (quite rightly) so not sure why you didn't get paid.

That's the car boot scrounger mentality!

Just say no then. Why on earth would it annoy you? It's how vinted works...

I did say no. I'm new to Vinted and still finding out. That's why I posted.

I usually offer a couple of quid less, but nothing pisstakey. What confuses me, is the seller declining my offer but the item has been up there for weeks or even months. Of course they're entitled to decline, but why not send me a counteroffer?!

YorkshireIndie · 02/03/2023 22:08

I find it depends on what the item is and how much I spent in the first place. Sometimes I accept, counter or just ignore. Had it with a swimsuit that was brand new and a bargain at £5. Got offered £3.50 then £4.25 and then the £5 I wanted. Everyone loves a bargain but it is what you decide

Moltenpink · 02/03/2023 22:08

I don’t think £10 is a huge bargain there. After you add on postage & fees, it’s fairly close for what you would pay in the sales, and at least you can try them on or return them. £6 is probably a more reasonable price on vinted really

megletthesecond · 02/03/2023 22:08

I've accepted offers of £1 on £2 items and they still never bought them.
I've had items on there for months. Loads and loads of likes but no buying.

RandomUsernameHere · 02/03/2023 22:10

If I've only just listed something then I tend to reject offers, but if something has been on there for a while or I'm keen to get rid then it makes sense to accept. The problem with listing things for more than you expect to get (as others have suggested) is that they will get less views.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 02/03/2023 22:26

This thread has been an eye opener for me!I’ve always paid full price for the things I’ve bought on Vinted, a few times I’ve thought things were a bit pricey but bought them as couldn’t find anywhere else. I had no idea you could offer a lower price or that a lot of sellers list items for more than they want/ expect; feel I’ve been overpaying now!

TokyoSushi · 02/03/2023 22:28

I Bloomin love Vinted! But I definitely price to allow for 'offers' - there's all the usual CF's on there that you find everywhere in life, but it's part of the fun!
