I stupidly forgot to transfer enough money to my bills account today and my EDF energy bill was returned - totally my fault.

I’ve never had a direct debit returned. What happens now? Do I need to phone EDF or my bank? It’s annoying because the money was sitting in my main bank account and I’ve had a nightmare couple of days the account was £50 short 🙄🙄 totally my fault though.

my account with EDF is currently in credit (bill due in the next few days though so don’t expect that to continue)

i get quite anxious about these things and panicky. Will it be ok?

Have you an online account with EDF? With most you can make a payment on top of the DD.
Or call them in the morning and pay over the phone. As you’re in credit on your a/c and you pay the DD amount by tomorrow you’ll be ok.

Yeah I have an online account.

they’ll take the money next month though? I’m worried the whole direct debit will be cancelled because I’ve had this one reversed.

i need to get my shit together. The past couple of days have been stressful in work and I’ve just completely forgotten

We have all been there. Give them a call in the morning, it will be an easy fix - promise.

You might be at risk of bank charges because of the bounce back. That's the only thing if be concerned about.

pinkbaglady · 01/03/2023 23:14

thanks @Bartlebum ill pay the bank charges. I’m the one who’s f’ed up 🫣

It you've only f'ed up this one time your bank will probably waive them too - worth giving a call if you've incurred them.

It's very easy to forget things like this, we all have 1001 things to remember so go easy on yourself x

They'll probably email you about it. Sometimes they try again in a couple of days so they give you a heads up. They know stuff like this happens easily, try not to worry.

pinkbaglady · 01/03/2023 23:21

Thanks all. Urgh I’m a stress head and this stuff just sends me over the edge.

I’ve made a payment to EDF just now for the same amount as the direct debit.

If you rarely get bank charges it’s worth asking the bank to refund them. Similar happened to me and my bank did. Also company will probably automatically reapply for the money in a few days.
