to be sitting in my house drinking coffee ignoring the freecycler who has knocked on my door 45 mins early to collect an item?

Yes, I probably am but sod her.

Eight emails over two weeks (after asking for it she announced she wouldn't be picking it up this week...) just to collect a baby bath ffs. I had to send her my address twice as she didn't read the whole email, then had to send her directions, and finally a map (I live in a mormal street in the middle of a small town- it shouldn't be this hard!) and in almost every email I said see you at 1pm on sunday.

So she knocks on my door at 12.15pm.

I'll open the door in a minute, don't worry, just having a miserable sod moment.

Hehehe, they drive me mad - I normally tell them it's on the driveway so I don't have to answer the door to them.

bemine · 10/02/2008 13:02

i always leave stuff on doorstep so they just take it..

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/02/2008 13:08

Love your name, bang! Gotta love Barry Scott...

I think she's gone actually! LOL I'm such a prat.

er, YABU

you left her on the doorstep?

why?

kindersurprise · 10/02/2008 13:35

Oh, I can relate to this (although I do think that you are being a bit rude).

I give English lessons at home and there is one family that always turn up 15 mins early. Every week. In fact, one week they were 30 mins early. I was still having breakfast.

I don't get why you would do this
She must be really desperate for money with all the emails etc
I thought the whole point of freecycle was to do good? Not be an a**e about it

WigWamBam · 10/02/2008 13:43

I can't see any valid reason to keep her waiting, to be honest.

You're at home; you want rid of the item - why not just open the door? Seems very mean-minded.

NorthernLurker · 10/02/2008 13:43

Sorry - unless you were/are stark naked YABU - she's turned up to collect a baby bath not evict you from the property!

posieflump · 10/02/2008 13:44

Is she pregnant?
What has she been doing for 45 minutes whilst you're refusing to answer the door?

latchmeregirl · 10/02/2008 13:44

Unreasonable to leave her outside, but not unreasonable to be annoyed. Mind you, at least she showed up - I am sooooo fed up with Freecyclers saying they want stuff then not showing up when I've waited in for them...

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 13:45

yabu. esp. to leave someone at the door waiting.

why do you freecycle if you can't seem to abide the foibles of humanity?

hunkermunker · 10/02/2008 13:51

How unpleasant of you!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 10/02/2008 13:55

Gawd, thats a bit bitchy. Is your time so much more valuable than hers?

Or.. oooh I've just thought [prepares to "play CLASS card] , is it because you are giving something away to her and therefore she should be ever-so-grateful however long you keep her standing on doorstep???

flowerybeanbag · 10/02/2008 14:00

yabu, how mean, and shiny's scenario sounds unfortunately probable.

bundle · 10/02/2008 14:02

yabu, totally.

I hope she buggered off and left you with it.

And you have to re list

hecate · 10/02/2008 14:06

12:15 she knocked and at 12:56 you still hadn't opened the door? did you really think she'd wait on your doorstep for 40 minutes for a baby bath?

or did you mistype and mean 12:51 and NOT 12:15, which would mean she was only 9 minutes before the agreed 1pm, which would ALSO make you blinking well bonkers!

ShinyDysonHereICome · 10/02/2008 14:10

How difficult would it have been for you to have opened your door, handed it over and shut your door again?

For all you know she had no credit on her phone and had come early as she had children to collect or something

hercules1 · 10/02/2008 14:12

You're not being unreasonable just downright nasty.

bubblagirl · 10/02/2008 14:16

i think you know you have been very unreasonable

she may have set off early not knowing where you live and arrived early

i have made same mistakes but luckily dealt with people who were very pleasant and didnt feel they were better than me

i apologise and explain and they are very kind

what makes you feel you have the right to treat anyone like that i'm sure if that was done to you, you would be hurt and upset and starting a thread on here

you didnt even let her explain you were just plain outright rude

i really feel for her its not nice for people to mistreat you over a matter of arriving early its not as if you wanted to keep[ item

poor woam was in need she could have been pregnant or busy with a new born and you let her down not the other way round at least she turned up makes me mad

kindersurprise · 10/02/2008 14:17

Oh, just read the timings. I thought that you had left her standing outside for a couple of minutes. Leaving her for 45 mins is just nasty.
