If you had to undress in front of someone in an emergency would you be ready?

Another one inspired by the emergency thread as this still mortifies me nowGrin last year I was taken to hospital unexpectedly after a car crash. I had to be topless for the ecg, and then someone helped me into a gown after. When I fake tan I usually only do my arms, legs up to the bottom of my bum cheeks, chest to nipple line and neck as that's the only bits that ever show so why would I waste time faffing doing the rest. Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat. I hadn't shaved my armpits or legs for about 4 weeks (it was winter alright) and I was also wearing the biggest, most unflattering pants you've ever seen as I'd been at the gym

Now I wonder if I should be more prepared for if something like that were to ever happen again. Although I'm sure they've seen it all and much worse before anywayGrin so if something similar happened to you would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

@museumum no I don't ever go swimming. I'm a fat fuck and can't be arsed with contorting myself to reach the harder bits that nobody is ever going to see anyway

I have been an hospital and have heard and overheard hospital staff making unflattering remarks about patients/service users. These remarks have included comments about various physical characteristics (including appearance). 😱OP they are human in the same way we are when we go to work. Some people are more discreet than others. They may have noticed but not enough to be distressed. They may save it all for a book of memoirs upon retirement!😅

That’s quite depressing to read, but I suppose if I were the person being discussed, I wouldn’t be in earshot so would be none the wiser and therefore unaffected. If commenting on people’s pants or body hair helps HCPs to get through the day, crack on, I guess.

Mangogogogo · 01/03/2023 11:21

once I got taken to hospital and had those nodes put on, they kept slipping off so they had to wash my moisturiser off 😂 I have bad medical anxiety as a patient so I’m mostly concentrating on not vomiting or fainting, however I totally get you. I clean my teeth before the dentist and shave my fanj before a smear.

when I’ve attended as part of my job (substance overdoses almost always) I literally don’t notice what they’re wearing or anything. Usually they have vomit all down themselves anyway, just literally concentrate on making them safe and treating them. I would maybe notice something but it wouldn’t last longer than a second in my head!

with regards to wearing your best knickers, my friend had a horse accident and they cut her best bra clean off immediately so I wouldn’t worry too much, if someone does notice your lovely bra it could be gone in seconds and will need to be binned! Haha

Heartsandbirds · 01/03/2023 11:22

Really, if you were that ill, you wouldn’t care.

Mangogogogo · 01/03/2023 11:22

Sometimes I think on here there’s a kind of reverse snobbery. Fine if you don’t shave but nothing wrong with women who choose to.

In my head it’s similar to saying something like ‘I’ve just got my nails done do you like them?’ ‘Wouldn’t DARE get my nails done’

just rude and a bit ridiculous

This is true, I think if you have personal experience of it you're actually the one to give a fuck, it's so easy to think "fuck that, I won't comply patriarchal standards of beauty etc" Wink until you yourself are wheeled into A and E wearing mismatched PJs and one sock Grin

Also, being in hospital is depressing as fuck, I always have nice PJs and "treaty" shower gel etc in my hospital bag as it's the little things that cheer you up.

Exactly this. I would never normally care, I do these things because I want to not because I care what anyone else thinks. Hence why I hardly ever shave and wear big comfy pants. But that doesn't mean it's not slightly embarrassing looking back on it and thinking wtf must I have looked like

eatdrinkandbemerry · 01/03/2023 11:23

Hairy legs (I did shave the fronts because I wanted to wear ripped jeans) and big Bertha pants 🤷‍♀️
I'd be laughing about it to be honest.

Asummersday · 01/03/2023 11:24

Crikey OP, people are really taking this too seriously 😂 this post was the wake up call I needed, id be mortified naked infront of anyone right now. Deffo motivation to keep up with healthy eating, exercise and self care 😁

Highdaysandholidays1 · 01/03/2023 11:24

There was a big thread recently about people not being cared for once in hospital, in terms of proper washing, showering and hair cleaning. I am vain, but it's also not good to not wash properly once there, and there's a huge issue with older people being unkempt, unclean, it's not good infection control at the very least, let alone how it affects their mental state. I begged for a shower and had one with my broken leg sticking out!

Latest thing is that you should not shave just before orthopedic surgery, can introduce infection. So, the leg hair is fine (I don't mind mine).

Roggers · 01/03/2023 11:25

@Mangogogogo oh god that happens all the time when a style and beauty thread ends up in active. Everyone climbs over themselves to explain how they're not high maintenance and would never dream of dying their hair/wearing make up/doing their nails. Good for you but some people do want to do those things!

ha ha this is why my nan always told me to wear my best knickers!

My nan used to say this too 🤣

OP I don't have time to fake tan but I always shave my legs because I don't like the way they feel when they rub together in bed otherwise...I have some questionable underwear choices though as I'm wearing nursing bras and they're not the most glam!

Highdaysandholidays1 · 01/03/2023 11:26

@Heartsandbirds just not true. One can face death one moment and care about your appearance the next. Humans are complex creatures.

TerribleInsomniac · 01/03/2023 11:26

Wondering if I should always wear knickers if I’m leaving the house now 🤣
Ooo and shave my legs

Heartsandbirds · 01/03/2023 11:27

@Highdaysandholidays1 I have been there and believe me, it was a good few days before I cared what I looked like.

PicnicBunny · 01/03/2023 11:27

Absolutely almost always ready! But that’s because I’m swimming or at gym and sauna most days and can’t be bothered to let that spiral out of control because then I need a lot more time and a total overhaul.

DH always thinks I overdo it if I’m getting a bikini wax to go for a parents evening lol 😂 but I just feel foul if I am not smooth and wearing gorgeous underwear.

tip: throw out bad underwear and buy amazing stuff. Makes a massive difference.
I don’t do this for others! I do this for me because at some point in the day dh is gonna get flashed I just know it hahaha

Jesus Christ people I'm not 'dwelling on the shallow and narcissistic'. And of course I'm fucking lucky to be alive, the crippling anxiety and months of counselling I've had are helping with that. It was clearly a light hearted thread

Don’t worry OP….my mum says things like that to me about no one noticing or being bothered and then comments on my weight and hair colour every time she sees me🙄

Fredoraly · 01/03/2023 11:30

I fake tan in the summer, shave my legs and armpits and take pretty good care of myself. I can honestly say if I had a medical emergency I wouldn't give a shit if I had a hairy arse/pits/legs and the most ridiculous orange tan lines.

The reason this thread can't ever be truly light hearted is that you then have to assume that a HCP would be interested in any of those things. They wouldn't be.

What is this amazing underwear..I like shorts style but I have a fat arse so finding nice looking ones is tricky

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/03/2023 11:30

Don't worry; they've seen it all before.

I had an anal access a few years ago (right where the sun don't shine) so had to endure almost a week of complete strangers looking at my naked bum. I couldn't have cared less as I was in so much pain. (The morphine helped though.)

Hope you have now recovered from your accident.

KimberleyClark · 01/03/2023 11:30

I sincerely hope I didn’t shock anyone with my pubic hair when I had to go in to have a groin abscess drained.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/03/2023 11:31

Abscess! (If that's how you spell it).

LuluBlakey1 · 01/03/2023 11:32

I would ask to have this thread removed OP- you are in for a battering by the 'pouncers'.

Roggers · 01/03/2023 11:32

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy I was wondering what an anal access was....

I like the look of pretty knickers but most of them are uncomfortable and/or made almost entirely of man made fibres which is a no no for me. Cotton pants for the win!

Roggers · 01/03/2023 10:16

Precious tan line? This place is absolutely fucking bonkers sometimes. It was clearly a light hearted jokey thread. Obviously at the time I didn't care what I looked like as I'd been through the most traumatic experience of my life and was glad to be alive and breathing. But looking back it makes me laugh at what I looked like. And I clearly said they have seen it all and much worse before

Poor OP. No lighthearted threads allowed!
