If you had to undress in front of someone in an emergency would you be ready?

Another one inspired by the emergency thread as this still mortifies me nowGrin last year I was taken to hospital unexpectedly after a car crash. I had to be topless for the ecg, and then someone helped me into a gown after. When I fake tan I usually only do my arms, legs up to the bottom of my bum cheeks, chest to nipple line and neck as that's the only bits that ever show so why would I waste time faffing doing the rest. Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat. I hadn't shaved my armpits or legs for about 4 weeks (it was winter alright) and I was also wearing the biggest, most unflattering pants you've ever seen as I'd been at the gym

Now I wonder if I should be more prepared for if something like that were to ever happen again. Although I'm sure they've seen it all and much worse before anywayGrin so if something similar happened to you would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

Bloody hell, the fun sponges in this place at times 🙄

It was clearly a light hearted post. And I find the idea quite bizarre that a HCP is just so busy and professional every minute they are at work that they wouldn't have a chuckle to themselves at something occasional. They're human.

My health visitor was busy and professional but I still remember her trying to keep her face straight and not chuckle when my PFB newborn had a cold and I told her we had been taking his temperature every 10 minutes 😁

VanGoghsDog · 01/03/2023 11:04

I don't use fake tan. I rarely shave no matter what the season. I wear the pants I want to wear, regardless of what anyone else might think.

I couldn't care less about undressing front of medical people.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/03/2023 11:05

Ha ha I actually had a similar conversation with a male colleague at work recently. I jokingly said that I never leave the house in underwear etc id not be seen dead in. And if he came round and caught me in my joggers and old bras my last words to him if I fell down the stairs would be "DO NOT CALL AN AMBULANCE " 🤣

He confessed to not give a crap what underwear anyone was wearing or being " a &e ready"

Yes its shallow but we can laugh abkut it surely i mean I literally wouldn't wanna die because I'm on day 2 of not shaving my legs but I'd be a little embarrassed I have to admit. Yes I know a paramedic wouldn't care.

DappledThings · 01/03/2023 11:06

Neither. I am far from perfectly presented by the standards of the thread (never fake-tanned in my life, bras and knickers don't match, haven't shaved anything in months) but I have no embarrassment about it. I'm clean, my clothes are clean.

704703hey · 01/03/2023 11:08

Not right now, I had a food poisoning which left me feeling weak so I crawled back to bed.

I'd be able to grab my phone and keys so ready in that sense, I'd have to apologise for being disgusting though

Ruth98 · 01/03/2023 11:09

My mum always used to make me put smart clothes and decent pants on for a doctor's appointment and it's stuck with me for life! I remember giving birth and realizing I was wearing Christmas socks (in spring) and apologising to the midwife and asking her not to tell my mum!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/03/2023 11:10

I pretty much always wear black underwear for this reason.

torquewench · 01/03/2023 11:10

Every time I go out on my motorbike I put my decent undies on, just to be on the safe side. Longer journeys I'll wear my lucky pants and socks.

One of my friends was in a fairly serious motorway incident with an HGV. Emergency services arrive and on seeing her leopard print leggings one of the crew said "ooh look, It's Rod Stewart"
😂

Well I’ll take it in the spirit in which it was intended.

I have always shaved my legs and everything else before a horse competition, or before riding new and/or baby horses. Basically anytime there’s a fair to middling chance of a A&E trip! I also always wear nice and pants and bra, but that’s because it’s one of the few things I’m good at- ditching ropey underwear as soon as it’s past it’s best.

I do exactly the same when I rode my horse!! Are my knickers clean 🤣

TortolaParadise · 01/03/2023 11:11

I have been an hospital and have heard and overheard hospital staff making unflattering remarks about patients/service users. These remarks have included comments about various physical characteristics (including appearance). 😱OP they are human in the same way we are when we go to work. Some people are more discreet than others. They may have noticed but not enough to be distressed. They may save it all for a book of memoirs upon retirement!😅

Why are you ever wearing dirty pants though? Just wash them

skgnome · 01/03/2023 11:11

I’m really past caring
however, I recently had a physio appointment for my leg… did thought about shaving , but you know winter, and who cares…. The physio had to tape my leg… 4-5 days after I decided to change the tape (as per instructions)… it basically waxed the leg! And as it was not put for waxing… it was weird angles… more painful than your average wax….
it made me reconsider - next time I’m fully waxing…. 😂

AmandaClare · 01/03/2023 11:12

Not worried about fake tan etc but I do remember being cut out of my trousers after being involved in an accident where I'd broken my leg, in great pain, and still feeling self-conscious about my thigh cellulite. FFS, brain.

waterlego · 01/03/2023 11:03

I mean, just ‘always wear clean pants’ seems like good advice in itself!

Yes, of course - it was just her reasoning that was funny, and the fact that being caught without clean pants would be the least of your problems in such a situation! 😂

Roggers · 01/03/2023 11:13

@torquewench come on now that's clearly made up. Didn't you know emergency staff never notice any of these things and would never even think of commenting on it. Has this thread not taught you anythingWink

Also, OP, I recognized the situation straight away, I have had a life/death situation in hospital and still felt mortified by looking appalling, I'm guessing some of those pursing their lips and being all moralistic about it have not. This is an unpleasant thread, not because of you, OP.

This is true, I think if you have personal experience of it you're actually the one to give a fuck, it's so easy to think "fuck that, I won't comply patriarchal standards of beauty etc" Wink until you yourself are wheeled into A and E wearing mismatched PJs and one sock Grin

Also, being in hospital is depressing as fuck, I always have nice PJs and "treaty" shower gel etc in my hospital bag as it's the little things that cheer you up.

Undermyumberellaellaella · 01/03/2023 11:14

I wouldn't care about much at all if it was an emergency.

ArmchairAnarchist2 · 01/03/2023 11:14

My lovely rather posh cousin was dropping her DC off at the local prep one morning. On the way back she skidded on black ice and rolled the car. She had to be cut out by the fire brigade. She said of the incident she knew she was ok because all she could think of was how embarrassed she was because she wearing her pyjamas.
I have a life limiting condition, which has several times almost cost me my life. In those moments what you are wearing and where the doctors are sticking their hands doesn't even cross your mind.
After waking from being in an induced coma on life support it was only after being released I would start to think about who washed me, changed my gown (they don't let you take anything personal into our local hospital's ICU, others might be different) and bed.

LivesOnPigeonStreet · 01/03/2023 11:14

This thread is hilarious despite the efforts of many.

'Why are you ever wearing dirty pants though?' 😄😄😄😄😄

xogossipgirlxo · 01/03/2023 11:15

I'm not ready now, as my legs need shaving😂

ButteryNuts · 01/03/2023 11:15

I unexpectedly had some medical photographs taken and had not shaved in a LONG time (though I prefer to be). My hairy legs, bikini line, belly are saved to some NHS database and potentially in textbooks too.

But it's for medical reasons. I couldn't care less.

I honestly cannot imagine taking the time to fake tan but not just doing it all over. Or at least some kind of obvious clothing pattern (e.g. with a vest and pants on). Do you never go swimming?
Personally I cba to fake tan, I am pale in winter and often end up with a 'farmers tan' in summer, so it's not like I'm some kind of high maintenance perfectionist but I honestly can't imagine looking at myself in the mirror everyday with weird fake tan patterns.

Southwest12 · 01/03/2023 11:16

I shaved my legs after being told I was having emergency surgery, don't know why as the stockings covered them up anyway. It was a moment of panic!

Jodielou5972 · 01/03/2023 11:18

I was rushed to hospital a few years ago and they had to cut all my clothes off me to get me ready for ICU/surgery/wires etc. All I remember when I woke up was how devastated I was that they had cut my favourite p-jays 😂 still not over it being honest!
But I didn't think about the state of my body or hairs etc. I ended up in a coma for a while and I did find it quite embarrassing meeting the nurse who my mam said was just incredible taking care of me, and while I was meeting her for the first time (on my part, I was unconscious), my mam said "she used to bath and change you every day and she was always so gentle and made sure you were clean". Errrr thanks for the sponge bath 😳😂
