If you had to undress in front of someone in an emergency would you be ready?

Another one inspired by the emergency thread as this still mortifies me nowGrin last year I was taken to hospital unexpectedly after a car crash. I had to be topless for the ecg, and then someone helped me into a gown after. When I fake tan I usually only do my arms, legs up to the bottom of my bum cheeks, chest to nipple line and neck as that's the only bits that ever show so why would I waste time faffing doing the rest. Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat. I hadn't shaved my armpits or legs for about 4 weeks (it was winter alright) and I was also wearing the biggest, most unflattering pants you've ever seen as I'd been at the gym

Now I wonder if I should be more prepared for if something like that were to ever happen again. Although I'm sure they've seen it all and much worse before anywayGrin so if something similar happened to you would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

@Mayonaiseislife 'smooth as a dolphin' that made me laugh! 😂

summerisnearlyhere · 01/03/2023 10:46

Totally got your thread OP! My dad would never wear novelty underwear in case he got taken to hospital in an emergency. I also shave before any kind of dr appointment that involves taking off any item of clothing lol.

littlestrawberryhat · 01/03/2023 10:46

Jeez Louise these people!! I’d kept my pjs on under my work clothes for warmth and in my rush tripped over a tree root and ended up hospitalised and was mortified they had to see what a lazy mess I was

JodiePants · 01/03/2023 10:47

Lol at all the upset people on this thread.

I get you OP! I had bad tan lines at the doctors incident when I was a teenager and I was mortified at the time but I doubt the doctor even noticed. On most normal days, I would not be ready for anyone to see me in my pants but since having a child, I don't really care anymore. Although saying that, I did shave my legs for my recent 6 week check as I knew the dr wanted to check for a prolapse.

Suzi888 · 01/03/2023 10:49

OP 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣on the tan lines! Lol

I had an appointment for an ecg once and she did comment on my tan. I had come back from a holiday though and was very tanned and perhaps just conversation. They have bloody eye balls, of course they notice things- possibly not so much in emergencies! I expect any thoughts they have are fleeting before they move onto the next chest/arse /fanjo what have you!

MN lately 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

Slightly off topic, but when I went into hospital to have my daughter I spent ages shaving my bikini line. I hadn't seen anything below the waist in months. I put a lot of effort in.
Ended up having a c section and was very annoyed that nobody was going to see it!

You do realise that someone put in a catheter before the operation and then the surgeon will have cleaned out the vagina with a swab after the operation? Then there’s the PR diclofenac… Plenty of people will have seen it

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/03/2023 10:49

Why are people being so superior and arsey? There's even a little smiley face in the OP for people who can't tell OP is poking fun at herself!

I'm regularly seen in a unexpected state of undress by medical professionals and I'll admit I always take care to wear matching knickers if I wear a bra Grin After a slightly embarrassing moment when paramedics had to clear a laundry mountain from the landing to get the stretcher thing down the stairs Blush I also make sure my landing is tidy too. I was once complimented on my pretty toenail polish by a doctor trying to distract me amidst a medical procedure, and it actually cheered me right up Smile

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2023 10:49

My Dad always wears smart clothes to go to the Doctors. I tell him they don't care but he thinks they do.

heyyouitsme · 01/03/2023 10:50

Always ready…

HangingOver · 01/03/2023 10:50

I learned to always wear a bathing suit under my wetsuit the day that I got injured and had to have it peeled off me by DP and the lifeguard

GretaGip · 01/03/2023 10:51

Perhaps if it was written in a comedic manner people would have responded as such, rather than seeing it for the vanity and gender stereotyping reinforcement that it came across as.

A thread with lighthearted in the title is a bit try hard.

If it's written well, that tone is inferred by the following posters.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 01/03/2023 10:52

I had a baby three months ago, so my poorly fitting nursing bra and mismatched giant pants would put anyone off me. I'm not sure I've shaved my legs since I was 8 months pregnant and I'm still carrying baby weight too 😂

However I can't warrant what emergency would require me to strip off where I'd actually want to look good, so I'm not too fussed!!

Eightiesgirl · 01/03/2023 10:54

@Roggers I know exactly what you mean (in a lighthearted way of course) I have the comfiest pair of big knickers ever in my knicker drawer, however, I must have spilt bleach on them in the past and, no matter how many times I wash them, they have some peculiar looking marks on them. I often reach for them, then mentally run through what I'm doing that day, as I will only ever wear them if I'm staying in the house all day, just in case!

ifonly4 · 01/03/2023 10:57

No one in hospital would care - they've seen it all before. Also, like any other job, you need to get it done and onto the next one - you haven't got time for thinking, oh she should have shaved her legs, tan should be all over.

Roggers · 01/03/2023 10:10

Jesus Christ people I'm not 'dwelling on the shallow and narcissistic'. And of course I'm fucking lucky to be alive, the crippling anxiety and months of counselling I've had are helping with that. It was clearly a light hearted thread

Never worry about these people.focused on finding the negative in everything.

I feel your pain. I'm overweight and have to strip to my bra every time I go to the physio...thank god get to keep my trousers on !! She , the physio, is a little perfectly shaped nymph...she has long mirrors in her studio...she does pilates as well...no matter what the underwear ...I will never be comfortable with this...but grin and bear it !!!

Don't think she cares ..but I do...

Highdaysandholidays1 · 01/03/2023 10:58

@Roggers I thought this was light-hearted as this exact thing happened to me! I was taken in in an emergency and yes of course I was glad to be alive but once that had died down, I was mortified by the hairy legs, patchy tan and the red flaky toenails that had been chipping off for a few months. I know no-one cared really but actually feeling compromised in dignity (let's not get onto the bed pans) and not yourself isn't a good thing in health-care. Next time around I didn't paint my toenails and didn't bother with fake tan!

Travelissue123 · 01/03/2023 10:59

...ps ....and i'm a nurse ...and I dont care about underwear or naked bits !!

Roggers · 01/03/2023 10:59

@Travelissue123 oh god that reminds me of the physio. She sounds much like yours. I was gobsmacked when she told me I had to take my t-shirt off. I was so self conscious of all my flab and I had a vest tucked into my jeans like Simon CowellGrin

Highdaysandholidays1 · 01/03/2023 10:59

Also, OP, I recognized the situation straight away, I have had a life/death situation in hospital and still felt mortified by looking appalling, I'm guessing some of those pursing their lips and being all moralistic about it have not. This is an unpleasant thread, not because of you, OP.

Cakeyface123 · 01/03/2023 11:01

My legs are incredibly hairy right now - gorilla like - ready for the Spring wax! And I’d be mortified (probably only afterwards) if I had an accident and they got my legs out - call me vain if you must (I’m totally not btw - I don’t often even wear make up)

my mum had a serious accident (building collapse) and was trapped for hours with a crushed leg - and she admitted during the time she was trapped that she wished she shaved her legs and tried to remember what bra she’d put on that day !!

Weird that this thread is triggering so many people. Surely we’re all a bit self conscious? Especially afterwards when your life is no longer at risk/no longer in pain etc?

reesewithoutaspoon · 01/03/2023 11:01

If it's any consolation as a hcp who has had to cut clothes off many times. I preferred it when you were in your old undies, sweatpants etc as I used to feel really guilty cutting through someone's obviously expensive clothing/lingerie
TBH we barely notice and don't care, no one expects you to be polished and groomed and smelling like a fragrant rose in an emergency. We have bigger things to deal with.

TheFifthTellytubby · 01/03/2023 11:01

This just reminds me of my mum saying "always wear clean pants in case you're in an accident"... 😂

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/03/2023 11:02

GretaGip · 01/03/2023 10:08

Think I'd be thanking my lucky stars I was alive rather than dwelling on the shallow and narcissistic.

Nurses are on their knees they don't give a fuck about your glamour.

This.

In SPADES!

They wouldn't care less - and they have seen everything before, anyway.

I mean, just ‘always wear clean pants’ seems like good advice in itself!

MotherOfPuffling · 01/03/2023 11:03

waterlego · 01/03/2023 10:41

This doesn’t seem to make logical sense! If you always wear your best pants, then you never wear pants which are bad or just average. So then there’s no such thing as ‘best’ pants.

Well yes, mine didn’t say ‘best’ pants exactly, just to make sure to always wear clean knickers, and to mend any holes before wearing them again, in case I broke my leg and had to go to hospital! (I always wondered why they’d be worried about my underwear in that situation!)
