Cancelling event because baby is teething

My husband and I are meant to be going on a date night we have tickets to watch Mickey Flanagan but I think my baby (7months) has his first tooth coming (I can feel it under his gum). I've said I don't want to go but husband is saying I'm being unreasonable and that his mum who is meant to be babysitting is more than capable of looking after him. I don't want to go in case he's unsettled and needs me to go to sleep. Am I being unreasonable? Would it be fine to leave him because it takes a few days for the tooth to cut through?

Of course it's fine to go. Your baby will be ok.

ifoundthebread · 01/03/2023 10:05

Im sure your MIL will offer plenty of snuggles if ds is unsettled.

PutinTheFuckingBasket · 01/03/2023 10:13

YABU I'm afraid - I hardly ever go out and am very much attached to my LO, but teething is not an issue I would stay home for. Proper illness, yes, teething, no

FrenchandSaunders · 01/03/2023 10:16

You shouldn't go, he needs you ..... give them to me 😉

WeWereInParis · 01/03/2023 10:17

I think it's absolutely fine to leave him. Get some teething gel or infant pain relief that your MIL can use if necessary. But she may not need to, my eldest never made the slightest fuss about teething, a new tooth would just appear. My youngest is different but I'd still leave her for the evening.

Orangeis · 01/03/2023 10:18

Babies teeth for a year or more. You should go, it's obviously important to your DH.

Margo34 · 01/03/2023 10:19

Presumably you've forwarded your mum and double checked with her first that she's still happy to babysit?

Ibuprofen if baby needs pain relief.

Otherwise enjoy your evening!

Margo34 · 01/03/2023 10:19

*forewarned

Dahlia444 · 01/03/2023 10:21

Please go and enjoy yourself. You'll be prevented from going on plenty of outings in the future- don't start on the 'in case it might happen'

Remaker · 01/03/2023 10:22

Not all babies struggle with teething. Mine would just wake up with a new shiny tooth poking through! Leave some pain relief for your mum in case she needs it and go out and enjoy yourself.

Bunnyishotandcross · 01/03/2023 10:23

Your dc will get many teeth op! First dc by any chance?

Dahlia444 · 01/03/2023 10:24

Also not being funny, but out of my four DCs only ONE tooth ever caused us grief (ie they were in prolonged pain and unhappy). I'm guessing very lucky from other people's experiences but teeth can come without tears.

Littlemissprosecco · 01/03/2023 10:25

Go! He’s teething, you’ll know when he’s really ill and you really can’t go in the future. Check your MIL is happy to give him extra cuddles if he needs them tho, else you’ll never go out anywhere again for the next 29 years!!

Mamadothehump · 01/03/2023 10:26

I'll happily take your tickets! We saw MF a few years ago at the O2 and he was hilarious!!
I'm assuming DS is your 1st..........

WandaWonder · 01/03/2023 10:28

I presume your MIL has raised her own child/ren?

Regardless life doesn't stop because you have a baby

Aroobear · 01/03/2023 10:38

Thanks everyone. Yes he is my first but by no means do I never go out and leave him I've left him for an evening on several occasions just last night he was unsettled and crying I presume because of this tooth coming through so was concerned about leaving him tonight with someone he isn't used to. But i have let her know and we have lots of teething products

I bet my last pound a few teeth in you will be running out that door when opportunity knocks op..

GoodChat · 01/03/2023 14:03

Definitely go. Your marriage is important too. If MIL needs you she'll call.

KarmaStar · 01/03/2023 14:06

Yes,glad you are going! 😀 and don't ruin the evening by worrying either.
Tell yourself he is warm safe, fed, cared for and in capable hands then enjoy your evening out and time with dh.🌈
