...to think that the fabric, literally, of society, literally is falling apart, literally?

Further to the outrage I noted last year of PG Tips putting less tea in each bag than they used to - and I think this was established as fact, although the rioting in the streets that I predicted never actually came to pass, which I blame on recent legislation against civil protest, it's bloody Priti Patel we have to thank for that...er..where was I? Oh, yeah, teabags. I've noticed that the manufacturing quality of pyramid teabags has plummetted. About one in four of them break in the mug these days, even just given a little gentle swirl. I mean, it appears that they're making the bags out of some kinda stuff that disintegrates in hot water. That can only be a deliberate attempt to break the spirit of the ordinary person.

I may have to switch to Yorkshire Tea. And I'm from London. Yes! I know! The situation is that dire. It's a sign of the End Times, I'm telling you. Dark forces are at work...

If by "the fabric of society" you mean clothes from Primark, why then yes they are quite literally falling apart.

Always keep in mind the golden rule of society in decline: 90% of everything is shit.

Ponderoveryonder · 28/02/2023 13:40

@ImprobablePuffin do not get me started on poorly perforated yoghurts. What a time to be alive

Timeforabiscuit · 28/02/2023 13:44

Barry's tea (when i can get it) and punjana have been fine

Yorkshire tea bags require a delicate approach to unpairing, which given the stakes involved is a job I would happily outsource.

Teapigs have been awful, got a box on special offer and three out of four ripped at the seals as you took them out of the box, and they didn't answer my naicely worded email!😡

Stillcountingbeans · 28/02/2023 13:48

Doh... I've just realised you meant that teabags are made of 'the fabric of society'. Good call. I just never thought that was called 'fabric', as it is plastic and paper.

Wait a minute - plastic and paper, Primark clothes, hmmm...

Sorry I realise my comment was not tea-focussed

Don't worry I'll make another one, literally.
What's going on with waffle cones dipped in chocolate, can't find them anywhere, I've got a tub of vanilla ice cream here going begging, literally.

Everything is going to hell I tell you. Need a cucumber, tomato or pepper? Don't even bother trying round here.

And a particular type of Tesco yoghurt that comes attached in 12's have (I'm guessing to save money) stopped making the snappy bits between the yoghurts so you have to manually cut them with scissors - soul destroying

Plenty of all in my local asda yesterday🍅i rushed straight past only interested in whether they had any mega chocolate buttons left, now would be the end of the world if Cadbury declare a shortage........what would I have with my coffee😜

littlestrawberryhat · 28/02/2023 13:51

And we all just sit on mumsnet and joke about it. We all just sit like little ducks whilst the government destroy every part of our bloody awful country.

Yorkshire Tea does not mix with London tapwater IME

You need to find the hard water ones, life changing

BeforetheFlood · 28/02/2023 13:53

Loose leaf is the only way to retain some tenuous grip on civilisation.

Duvetdweller · 28/02/2023 13:56

You need to switch to Ringtons - the king of tea

I think it's a fair assumption, but I wouldn't know.

Me, I can never remember whether Yorkshire's the one to the left or to the right of those little mountains.

Surely it depends if you’re approaching in an upward or downward direction?

Riapia · 28/02/2023 14:02

errm yeh,no err like, err well err like y’know like. So yeh no like, that’s my opinion, I think.

UnctuousUnicorns · 28/02/2023 14:03

Surely every avid tea connoisseur knows that the best teabags are the cheapest value brands. Indestructible bags with builders' strength tea inside. Can't go wrong with 'em. You can keep yer poncy named brands.

BollocksToThem · 28/02/2023 14:07

I literally ran out of tea the other day , I was inconsolable, ‘twas heat breaking to see my family all upset
I bought emergency twinings extra strong breakfast tea which has filled the gap but aspire for Brew tea co , out of my dreams now what with the price of cucumbers
Will the world keep on spinning I ask myself

Who'd be coming at it from above? There's nothing there, is there?

I've has loads of Yorkshire Teabags split recently, very annoying especially when dd doesn't notice and you get a mouthful of leaves.

journeyofinsanity · 28/02/2023 13:22

I'm pretty sure the packaging on some cheeses/cured meats/smoked salmon etc that has one corner that you are supposed to pull the thing open with has been created to tip us over the edge. Never separated. End up using a knife. But left angry and defeated. It's all about controlling us

Ok yes this definitely! Tescos Italian inspired selection by any chance ?
Also Why the hell do they layer the meat the wrong way round . If you do manage to peal the film off you have to peal it all the way back to get to the top slice , why not layer them the other way around or put the tear off ( joke ) on the other end of the packet . ARRRGGGGG.

Ummmm I only drink coffee so can't comment on the sturdiness of tea bags but if your going yo make a brew do so in a pot and use a tea strainer or my gran will come and shout at you gor doing it wrong

You are so right. Let's insight this meeting to rebellion...starting with getting an appropriate amount of snap on packs of yoghurts!

BollocksToThem · 28/02/2023 14:23

I’ve thought that about the sliced meat/cheese slices @ScottBakula , does nobody check these things ?
the tip of the iceberg and a slippery slope into a lawless society

Tea drinker from the SE here - is this really a thing? what Yorkshire Tea box am I looking for?

Agree with OP, definite decline in quality of PG pyramid bags, numerous splits occurring and just what the heck is going on now with plastic milk cartons, the semi-skimmed lids are clear!

I feel we are reaching end of days!! Grin

MarigoldFeatherstone · 28/02/2023 14:26

Recently changed to Co-op Earl Grey bags

I went to Yorkshire once (I went to York which I assume is in Yorkshire, I don’t often venture to “The North”). The tea was lovely.

You can't make assumptions, Leeds Castle.......Kent! Anglesey Abbey.......no idea, but it's not in Wales!

We only get 4 cream eggs in a box 😔 but things seem okay on the tea front.

thehorsehasnowbolted · 28/02/2023 14:30

YANBU OP. Climate change loons ruining our tea bags

SoCrossAboutThis · 28/02/2023 14:31

I want a creme egg now.

skinny whip bars now only 88cals rather than 99. Not an improvement in sugar levels but a 15% size reduction. Fuckers. I now have to eat two

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 28/02/2023 14:39

Yorkshire Tea all the way (and I say that as a Londoner).

Tea bag fabric does seen more flimsy than it used yo be though. But Yorkshire bags can go in the compost so I forgive them.

Not relevant, but I recently tried biscuit flavoured tea. Sounds awful, but it was quite heavenly and saved me the calories of a dunked biscuit.
