...to think that the fabric, literally, of society, literally is falling apart, literally?

Further to the outrage I noted last year of PG Tips putting less tea in each bag than they used to - and I think this was established as fact, although the rioting in the streets that I predicted never actually came to pass, which I blame on recent legislation against civil protest, it's bloody Priti Patel we have to thank for that...er..where was I? Oh, yeah, teabags. I've noticed that the manufacturing quality of pyramid teabags has plummetted. About one in four of them break in the mug these days, even just given a little gentle swirl. I mean, it appears that they're making the bags out of some kinda stuff that disintegrates in hot water. That can only be a deliberate attempt to break the spirit of the ordinary person.

I may have to switch to Yorkshire Tea. And I'm from London. Yes! I know! The situation is that dire. It's a sign of the End Times, I'm telling you. Dark forces are at work...

I haven't been able to find Moroccan style hummus for weeks!

It's hell out there

Not sure what Houmous has to do with teabags but Waitrose have plenty of the Moroccan Style one.

Back to teabags-has to be Twinings Breakfast.

watcherintherye · 28/02/2023 12:59

Yes, all joking aside, I actually have noticed that tea bags aren’t as robust as they used to be!

OutOfThisState · 28/02/2023 12:31

There’s other tea out there other than Yorkshire?

Aha! found the inferior tea brand pusher.

We see you.

Yes. Dorset Tea and it's far superior.

Apparently it’s because they’re using eco friendly seals which are disintegrating in water although I haven’t found it affecting my tea yet. But I’d sooner throw myself in the Thames than give up PG Tips for Yorkshire tea.

The Thames seals only disintegrate in water when they're dead.

I understand they've taken the plastic out of them for environmental reasons.

I'd assumed they were just paper but apparently not.

WhyIsBogdanSexy · 28/02/2023 13:06

PG tips are nasty AF and you are extremely unreasonable for drinking them in the first place.

Yorkshire Gold, M&S breakfast blend, Sainsbury's Gold, Brodie's breakfast blend. All acceptable alternatives. If it's an emergency, Scottish Blend or Thompson's Family Feast.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 28/02/2023 13:07

OP YABU to use “literally”3 times in your post title!

SoCrossAboutThis · 28/02/2023 13:07

The last six tubes of oral b toothpaste I’ve had have split along the seam rendering them useless. Companies are definitely trying to cut corners and costs.

FlamingoSocks · 28/02/2023 13:08

It’s a sign of the overall collapse of things that I read an OP like this, have a small smile to myself but then wonder if you are actually leading in to talking about water serpents…..

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/02/2023 13:08

Ah switch to Scottish Blend (are you allowed that south of the border), no splitting pyramids here…

jays · 28/02/2023 13:08

I literally and categorically agree!

TinaYouFatLard · 28/02/2023 13:09

YES!! DH had a Michael Douglas style Falling Down moment recently and threw out our stock of PG Tips after yet another bag burst in his cup! We are now working through a Costco mega bag of Yorkshire and it’s really good. Going to make a cup right now!

Serrassi · 28/02/2023 13:10

Switch to coffee 👌

Sirikit · 28/02/2023 13:10

I don't drink tea because I'm the Antichrist. But Haribo bags are definitely getting smaller, and this is a sure sign of the End Times.

JusteanBiscuits · 28/02/2023 13:11

YABU for drinking PG over Yorkshire in the first place. And don't get me started on the quality of Twinings these days

BitOutOfPractice · 28/02/2023 13:11

And the reason why society is on its uppers? People like you making tea in the mug, that’s the reason! Look sharp and think on!

pippinsleftleg · 28/02/2023 13:11

I went to Yorkshire once (I went to York which I assume is in Yorkshire, I don’t often venture to “The North”). The tea was lovely.

Guis · 28/02/2023 13:12

Do try Twinings or Whittards.

I think it's a fair assumption, but I wouldn't know.

Me, I can never remember whether Yorkshire's the one to the left or to the right of those little mountains.

Everything is going to hell I tell you. Need a cucumber, tomato or pepper? Don't even bother trying round here.

And a particular type of Tesco yoghurt that comes attached in 12's have (I'm guessing to save money) stopped making the snappy bits between the yoghurts so you have to manually cut them with scissors - soul destroying

ImprobablePuffin · 28/02/2023 13:20

Sorry I realise my comment was not tea-focussed

journeyofinsanity · 28/02/2023 13:22

I'm pretty sure the packaging on some cheeses/cured meats/smoked salmon etc that has one corner that you are supposed to pull the thing open with has been created to tip us over the edge. Never separated. End up using a knife. But left angry and defeated. It's all about controlling us

Ponderoveryonder · 28/02/2023 13:32

So Pg are aware of this problem, but haven’t seemed to resolve it. I have had numerous refunds from pg tips when i’ve complained, and I’ve been told it was a temporary manufacturing issue. What I’ve noticed is that if you buy your Pg tips from a budget supermarket, or on special offer ,you’ll get the shit ones, yet if you purchase from like … waitrose you get normal ones. I assume they have a huge amount of faulty teabags that are distributed to bargain retailers , whereas if they’ve resolved the issue, premium teabags go to big supermarkets (but not lidl/ aldi / home bargains etc, because they’re presumably selling off the discounted stocks of bad bags). The other place that has this issue is greggs. Every other greggs teabag is broken, absolutely infuriating. (Not sure which tea they use).
Anyway you’re absolutely right, society is indeed going to the dogs and broken teabags is just the top of the iceberg .
If broken Britain can’t even get tea right, well we’re fucked aren’t we 🤷‍♀️

ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure · 28/02/2023 13:34

And if you want something to eat with your tea the vending machine in our office appears to be selling scale miniatures of popular chocolate bars.
