After trawling the web, all the cool sleepsuits are like £17 or £18 each. The ones I can afford are pale blue. Ds is 9 weeks and I'M SICK OF PALE BLUE!!! How hard would it be to make funky stripes or circles in bright funky colours? But no, it's 'Little Aeroplanes' and 'Cute Puppy' in PALE BLUE.

I think I mentioned earlier in this thread (or was it another kid's clothes thread ) that I had thought of printing fab things onto plain white kids T shirts as the stuff I cold buy in the shops for my DS (2.5) was so dull and boring. I even bought that paper you can put in your printer and print off an image from the computer onto it and it is an iron on transfer. Perhaps we should have a little corner of Mumsnet where we exhibit and sell our own little designs. Could have competitions! I've got some ideas I'd like to try out. Must rush off to PRIMARK for white T shirts. Everyone would log on to look at them as it seems a pretty common theme on Mumsnet that we're all fed up of the dull range of baby/kids clothes available.

DS (9 weeks) has / had the following (he's already out of some 0-3 month stuff)

Asda : 2 pack for 4 quid, one red with a tractor on, one white with lots of little tractors and diggers

Primark : 3 for 5 quid (not as nice as asda, but not bad) one dark blue, one white with bright stripes, one white with colourful animals on

Mothercare : 3 pack for 8 quid (think they were normally 12, but were in the sale) - 'bug club' - one bright orange, one turquoise, one white with lots of brightly coloured bugs on.

Am I missing something here? (Haven't read the whole thread)

nappyaddict · 17/04/2010 19:10

fernie3 · 17/04/2010 19:15

Next have some nice ones I bought a couple of really bright ones for my hospital bag I think they were £13 for 3 or something like that.

GetThePartyStarted · 17/04/2010 20:24

I have these from John Lewis which are £12 for 3, lovely quality and quite funky. Also have a similar set with fire-breathing dragons which are fab!

pranma · 17/04/2010 20:25

Bought a beautiful Calvin Klein sleep set for dgs from TKM-it was dark blue with red and pale blue aeroplanes all over it.It cost £6.99 I think.

Attenborough · 17/04/2010 20:32

This site has some gorgeous things - some of it is outside your chosen budget, but stuff like Greenbaby vests which come in great colours and are in the range you're looking for:

I got some nice stuff from Debenhams Blue Zoo brand

blue zoo

kitcat1977 · 17/04/2010 21:44

I got some nice ones in Mothercare and Next recently (for my girl, admittedly): one in reds and blues and the other in purples (both packs of 3). The most expensive was £13.50.

BikeRunSki · 17/04/2010 21:57

I know where you are coming from! My DS is coming out of the "pale blue with cars" clothing phase and into the "militaristic and/or with negative stereotype slogans" phase.

But Next usually have a few funky things amongst the rest of the "trendy" tat. For sleepsuits look...

Check for your next local NCT nearly new sale, good place to pick up some bargains. Of course you never know what you'll find.

Squibbly Biskit

Mouseface · 19/04/2010 15:55

Sainsbury's have had some lion/stripes, animals and giraffe in a pack of 3. Only £12 I think, maybe less. Greens, reds, oranges and browns.

Lovely. Washed really well which is a seperate thread altogether!!!!!!!

zebedeethezebra · 19/04/2010 15:58

Try John Lewis - you can get packs of 5 with various designs on. I've had some with dragons on, some with circus animals and some with spaceships. They only cost about £15 for a pack of 5.

Shaz10 · 19/04/2010 15:58

I bought some nice ones from Next. All bright stripes and pictures. Bit like these £13 for 3.

zebedeethezebra · 19/04/2010 16:00

Sorry, I meant to say packs of 3. But still really good value.

HesterPrynne · 19/04/2010 16:05

Do you know anyone handy with a sewing machine? I made a series of great sleepsuits cut out of old t-shirts that H and I were particularly fond of. They're are dead easy: buy a cheap suit, unpick the seams, lay on t-shirt, cut out, sew back together. Add poppers. Done. Still got a stripy on a doll somewhere, made for DD1 who's 16 now

Sassybeast · 19/04/2010 17:10

Are you in London ? Camden Market had a few places a few years back which did brillaint brightly coloured printed and embroidered stuff!

Psammead · 19/04/2010 18:14

I just got an entire wardrobe for my DD in the 6-9 months range for about 50 euro. Over 30 pieces of clothing. I went to a second-hand market and everything was priced at about 1 or 2 euro per piece.

Some of the things have obviously never been worn, and others only a few times. Saved us a ton of money, and we were able to pick from a huge range of things, not just from whatever is in the shops this season.

Really worth doing!

June2009 · 19/04/2010 18:25

depends qhat you mean by funky, have yu tried tescos, asdas and sainsburys?

Galena · 19/04/2010 22:21

I like Next - here.

I've got the Animal ones and the Giraffe ones and they are cool and really bright and cheerful. There are also others further down the page. They are all officially boys ones, but I've got them for my DD.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2010 22:33

Tie dye a pack of plain white ones!

BertieBotts · 19/04/2010 22:35

I love the challenge of finding nice, bright, but also affordable clothes for DS.

Next is very hit and miss, but can be good (though I saw a hoodie in there today which would have been nice had it not had NEXT plastered all over the front )

Boots (Mini Mode) is a favourite too.

Mothercare occasionally have nice vests and sleepsuits.

Primark is a surprising hit, a lot of the time. Their stuff washes well too, unlike matalan which fades, falls apart and goes bobbly after one wash.

Fantasy sleepsuit shopping time... DS has outgrown sleepsuits

Red stars and stripes - Boots

Cute stripy romper - Boots

These are sooo gorgeous "in the flesh" - Boots

And matching vests

OK they're robots, but nice and bright - Boots

Matching vests

DS has these socks, they are gorgeous and don't fall off - Boots
