Please help me, I’m struggling with this

Sorry this is cringey and I know posts like this always seem suspicious as trolls- I promise I’m not, I’ve just name changed.

I’ve had EXTREME discomfort, to be completely blunt and factual it’s at the clitoris area. But it doesn’t feel like it’s on the skin or surface tissue , it feels like it’s physically inside / much deeper. Almost like where the pubic bone is (I think?!).

the discomfort is horrendous- sort of a deep itching and sort of pain. I’ve had BV and thrush before and the itching with both felt different whereas this discomfort feels much much deeper. It’s like it’s deep inside the clitoris area itself. I haven’t changed washing powders or underwear type or material but even when I had a problem with washing powder causing irritation years ago it felt so different to this, this feels much much deeper

ive spoken to the gp several times who felt that the discomfort was too deep rooted to be be or thrush but we tried treating for both (separately obviously) and it’s not helped at all. It’s also not a uti or a STI. I’m not on any contraceptive and I’m not sexually active either.

They said they don’t know what it is but they can refer me to a gynaecologist but the waiting list is over a year and I honestly don’t think I can cope with this for that long!

sorry this is such a cringey post but does anyone have any knowledge or advice of what this could be and what might help it? Really struggling and it’s making my life miserable.

This sounds extremely uncomfortable; sorry you're having to deal with this.

How long has this been going on? Is it possible there's a cyst forming under the skin? Any subtle swelling?

Not what you want to hear, but I think the gynaecologist is your best bet. In the meantime, you could try warm compresses which might offer some relief and can't hurt anything.

A one year wait for an appt. is outrageous and inhumane.

TomatoSandwiches · 27/02/2023 00:02

Did the gp examin you at all, is it inflamed, any discharge or look/feel different to normal?

The only thing I could think of is to pull back your clitoral hood and see if there's an infection at all.

Sorry if that's not helpful, sounds horrible to put up with, could you see someone privately?

UmbrellaSparrow · 27/02/2023 00:05

OP.. one had similar. Like a burning, over sensitive clit that feels deep inside. The cause of mine was unknowingly buying & using scented toilet roll for a week or so. Replaced the toilet roll. Smothered clit in sudocrem over night & it really did help.

Hi Op

I think making a appointments with the sexual health clinic locally where you are ,

Should be first port of call ,
would be beneficial as they obviously specialise in these aspect of medical field,

(Its cofindential service , they will ask you for permission for to send your medical tests results by text message to your mobile or tel call up to you,
Personal preference,
tests results usaully takes about two weeks on average too
Also what about asking your Doctor for a referral to Gynaecology dept of your local hospital if they have one?
or
Hospital elsewhere

Goodread1 · 27/02/2023 00:12

Hi Op
Making a appointment with your local sexual health/family planning clinic , usaully takes a couple of weeks the most on average too,

A clinic like this isn't just for sexual veneral diseases , it's for other medical problems for down below area of body too,
for e.g mirer/copper birth control coils, ect
So don't be put off
Making a appointment with them

pleasehelpmeargh · 27/02/2023 00:14

Thanks for the suggestions- I went and double checked the toilet roll in case I had suddenly become sensitive to it but it’s non perfumed/non fragrance paper. I’ll try applying sudocrem to the area though to see if that gives any relief, thanks for the tip.

i had actually considered going to a sexual health clinic but the gp said there’s no point because they can’t do anything they haven’t done already and apparently it needs to be gynaecology. The gp said the sexual health clinic can only deal with stis and pregnancies and i can say with 100% certainty that it’s neither! Can the sexual health clinic do other tests though to see what it is? x

Hi Op
Oops I forgot to say sexual health/family planning clinic
Under its cofindencial service

You can of course for preference also have any of your medical tests results sent by post too up to you

Goodread1 · 27/02/2023 00:22

Hi Op

Yes they they can do other types of tests aswell ,

What have you got to lose, by just ringing them up sexual health clinic about your health issue?
Do this as soon as possible to find out,

As its driving you mad with the symptoms

StellaGibson2022 · 27/02/2023 00:29

in the interim you could also try the soothing version of Vagisil.

I’ve had similar, usually around the end of my period and put it down to the pad irritating me.

Word of warning on the sexual health clinic - they will ask if you are sexually active and if you say no they might not see you.

WetBandits · 27/02/2023 00:34

Hi OP, I’m a sexual health nurse and would absolutely invite you in for an appointment to see how we could help if you contacted my service with this problem 😊 we deal with genital dermatology issues also and can refer to gynae/derm if necessary.

Summerfun54321 · 27/02/2023 00:38

Your GP sounds very unhelpful. Can you see a different GP as well as trying family planning. Or pay for a private gynea exam?

wonkymonkey · 27/02/2023 00:41

Not sure how helpful this will be but my daughter (pre-teen) sometimes has pain. Difficult to tell exactly what’s going on as she’s so young and I think it might be more the vagina area (hence why not sure this is helpful but anything is worth a go). A bath for 10 mins with bicarbonate of soda works for her. Something to do with re-balancing the acidity/alkaline balance.

pleasehelpmeargh · 27/02/2023 00:42

Yeah the GP said I might not even be able to be seen at a sexual clinic because I’ve never had sex before

they did an examination of the area but said everything looks ok externally but the problem is inside the clitoris which obviously they can’t see. It’s itchy but not a skin itch, it honestly feels so deep as if if my pubic bone (or whatever bone is around the clitoris area) is itchy and burning x

Thank you very much I’ll honestly give anything a go at this point! Sounds like I’ll have plenty of time to try things before being seen by a gynocologist anyway so may as well x

How is your pelvic floor? Since I went into perimenopause my pelvic floor muscles have weakened, everything has sunk down a bit and I've struggled with possibly a similar sensation - not itchy, not really painful, more like very sensitive but inside. I believe the organs pushing/squashing everything down is causing a pressure sensation.

I know your doctor said it could take a year Op@pleasehelpmeargh
Even though a year seems such a ridiculous long time to wait to sort something out like this for blessed relief,
It's Surprising how quick of sorts the time does go
I thought I would link up to website for you, not sure your funds would be able to stretch to going private,
But it's worth having a check and see ect

MadHattter · 27/02/2023 00:51

OP, this is a wild guess but might be worth a Google - Lichen Sclerosis. It can be extremely uncomfortable. It sometimes presents with white patches. Hope you get sorted whatever it is.

MadHattter · 27/02/2023 00:53

*Sclerosus

Missingthegore · 27/02/2023 00:59

The definition of sexually active can be that you are not a virgin

All about how you interpret it

MrsClatterbuck · 27/02/2023 00:59

Having a bath with tea tree oil has helped me in the past with thrush symptoms. Worth a try.

Thank you so much for the link! I’m going to speak to my mum tomorrow and explain and ask if I can borrow the money from her to go private as a year seems so long x

thank you so much for all the other tips and suggestions, I’ll add tea tree to the list of things to try and I’ll Google lichen sclerusos to see if it has the same symptoms as what I’ve got. Thanks again x

Has your urine been tested? Could it be a UTI further up that's causing this wider discomfort

Lemons1571 · 27/02/2023 07:08

@pleasehelpmeargh

I have similar. Had it for years now. Also don’t know what it is, as the area looks normal to the medics. Gynae had a look once and dismissed me.

Benadryl Once helps - has to the the one with pseudoephrine in. I think mine is some kind of vulvodynia / clitoral enlargement, possibly caused by trauma to the area during childbirth.

Weird question, but does orgasm temporarily relieve the symptoms?

Lilliflip · 27/02/2023 07:15

It could be nerve pain, esp if you describe it as deep rooted. There’s a condition called pudendal neuralgia which can cause genital pain.
