Lollymop · 26/02/2023 14:44

I had bleeding from the bum for a few years
eventually did a fit test which was clear

I have really bad binge eating disorder and there does appear to be a correlation between bad bingeing episodes and rectal bleeding
today iv been bleeding bright red/pink all week iv had a bad binge eating McDonald’s most days and other take aways chocolate etc
today iv been and a big clump of blood was there
I can’t stop crying I feel so useless iv probably given myself bowel cancer because I’m so bloody useless no one can get away with treating their body this way

It's a hell of a lot more likely to be piles, from constipation because of junk food.

DiddyHeck · 26/02/2023 14:46

No-one here can tell you but obviously you need a docs appointment.

Good luck OP, the sooner you go, the sooner you'll find out Flowers

unlikely but who knows. try not to stress.

Wrongsideofpennines · 26/02/2023 14:49

It is possible that it is piles, fresh red blood usually is. But please make a GP appointment as soon as possible to get it checked out. I have lost too many people in my life to bowel cancer to now ever take the risk.

It may also help to speak about your binge eating with the GP if you haven't already, to make sure you have the right support.

BiggerBoat1 · 26/02/2023 14:49

Go and see the doctor. Hopefully nothing too sinister - it may be a digestive problem because of your diet. I'm not a doctor though so please see someone qualified to help you.
Good luck.

TheGoogleMum · 26/02/2023 14:49

Nobody can diagnose that over the Internet, if you're worried please see your GP.
It's not very likely if you are under 50.
Bleeding isn't a good sign though so probably worth seeing a doctor anyway

Luckingfovely · 26/02/2023 14:50

As per a pp, far more likely to be piles.

Don't panic thinking the worst - you need to get a sensible head on, both to see a doctor and get to the bottom of the bleeding, and then to address your eating habits so you don't end up here again.

You're more likely to have something like IBS. You're eating exactly the sort of food that would cause a flare.

Bekindbekind · 26/02/2023 14:58

A FIT test tests for (invisible) blood in your stool, so I have no idea why you’d have been given one if you had visible bleeding.

Go to the doctor. Statistically it’s unlikely. But you need to be checked out. Really the only way to see for sure what’s going on there is to have a colonoscopy.

Spidey66 · 26/02/2023 14:59

If its fresh red blood and is on the toilet roll rather than 8n with your poo, it's not cancer. Chances are it's either a burst blood vessel, piles or an analysis fissure. I've had an analysis fissure, they tent to be painful especially when you're pooing but tend to resolve themselves, but you'd be as well to take a stool softener like lactulose, plenty of water and maybe some anusol suppositories to ease the pain.

Although it's likely to be minor, check it with the GP to be sure. I've had an anal fissure about 2 or 3 times, once it was checked out I recognised the signs and symptoms and just managed it with otc measures.

Spidey66 · 26/02/2023 14:59

Analysis =anal

Bekindbekind · 26/02/2023 15:01

“If its fresh red blood and is on the toilet roll rather than 8n with your poo, it's not cancer“

I’m sorry, but this is not true.

I do agree, however, that it makes it far more likely to be haemorrhoids or similar.

HelpIcantfindaname · 26/02/2023 15:09

I thought I just had IBS for ages & when I eventually went to the doctor I was wrong.
There was no blood visible in my poo.
Bright red blood is less likely to be cancer, but it doesn't mean its not.
Other symptoms I had were constantly needing to poo, not feeling like my bowel was empty when I'd just been, stomach pains & a bloated stomach.
Go & see your doctor, they may send you for a colonoscopy. Also, ask your doctor for help with the binge eating.
I've struggled with being overweight through bad eating habits most of my adult life, & do wonder if that contributed to my cancer.
Be honest with your gp & get the support you need.
Good luck.

DramaLlama20 · 26/02/2023 15:14

OP have you checked for piles? It's most likely NOT cancer but you obviously need to see your GP. Don't feel guilty or ashamed, just call them know the morning and don't put it off any longer. I binge too and I get piles occasionally but they don't bleed, but it does push me into 'eating healthily' for a few days each time.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 26/02/2023 15:17

You definitely need to go see the doctor.
If its any comfort, even it was bowel cancer, my granny overcame it purely with surgery, and just has a check up every few years. And she's now nearly 70.

Spirini · 26/02/2023 15:21

As @Spidey66 says it's like a fissure but they're excruciatingly sore. Steroid suppositories would sort that out

Hope you feel less anxious soon OP Flowers

PlainSkyr · 26/02/2023 15:35

Unlikely to be bowel cancer unless your stools have radically changed / you've become constipated etc. Blood is more likely to mean piles / fissures etc. - some local problem that can be resolved.

But, would be good if you use this as a reality check and fix your relationship with food.

antidisestablishmentarianism · 26/02/2023 15:42

OP don’t listen to some of the terrible “facts” on here, no one can diagnose you through a keyboard. Call the gp, be honest with the receptionist about your symptoms and they may well give you an urgent appointment. Then you are in the best place for someone to work out what is wrong.

There are a lot of people who “know” what the symptoms of bowel cancer are. Believe me, if I had listened to you then I would never have gone to my gp.

Exactly this. We don’t want to scare you; it’s statistically unlikely that you have bowel cancer. But you need to see your doctor, nothing else will do.

87SPD · 26/02/2023 15:55

The same used to happen to me when I had a binge but it doesn’t negate the fact that rectal bleeding needs to be investigated so please see your GP 🙏

With regards to the eating, it is clearly taking a hold on you and causing you to have the internal demeaning and negative attitude towards yourself - please also seek help for this. You are not a bad person, this is coping mechanism that for some reason, you need at the minute. Get professional help for this and try your best in the meantime not to be so hard on yourself. Distraction is good to stop internalising everything, go and get fresh air, put some uplifting songs on and have a tidy round or anything that takes your mind off it.

Grapewrath · 26/02/2023 15:56

All the advice about certain types of blood snd where it is not meaning bowel cancer is absolute bullshit.
ANY type of bleeding should be investigated and while it’s incredibly likely to be piles etc, only a medical professional can rule out BC.
Op don’t worry you’re likely fine but do talk to your GP. Even if it’s not bowel cancer you need to be investigated for other conditions that can cause stomach issues and bleeding
