Lollymop · 26/02/2023 14:44

I had bleeding from the bum for a few years
eventually did a fit test which was clear

I have really bad binge eating disorder and there does appear to be a correlation between bad bingeing episodes and rectal bleeding
today iv been bleeding bright red/pink all week iv had a bad binge eating McDonald’s most days and other take aways chocolate etc
today iv been and a big clump of blood was there
I can’t stop crying I feel so useless iv probably given myself bowel cancer because I’m so bloody useless no one can get away with treating their body this way

I had bouts of rectal bleeding last year. Always bright red. My GP said any rectal bleeding should be investigated. I had blood test, the occult blood poo test and then as the bleeding carried on I had colonoscopy.
They found a small polyp and some areas of diverticular disease.
Please speak to your GP.

Serious question, with apologies for the derail: what was the point of the test for occult blood if there was already very visible blood? In my case they just went straight for the colonoscopy.

Is it sore when you poo?

i have had fissures since childbirth and if i dont watch my diet, lots of fruit and veg etc and get a bit constipated then i re-tear and its very sore and bleeds. I get a cream called rectogesic from the GP which helps with the pain and healing.

See the doc, theres lots it could be.

Cocobutt · 26/02/2023 16:52

Chances are it’s just piles due to a bit of constipation from eating junk food/over eating.

Pop to the gp and tell them your symptoms.
They will probably want a quick check and then they’ll give you suppositories to help.

I know it’s not your question but I’ve always struggled with binge eating due to childhood trauma.

Of course it’s an emotional thing which you need to try to get to the bottom of but what really helped me was eating a realistic calorie controlled diet but eating whatever I liked within those calories - some days I’d eat very healthy and some days I’d eat chocolate for dinner as my meal.
Eventually I was able to normally and allow myself treats along with healthy food.

Taking away the restrictions actually helps you to control the impulses.

I also go to bed early and keep as busy as I can.
I allow myself a ‘binge’ once a week still but it’s after a certain time and I make sure to eat very low calorie all day and go for a long walk first so I feel better mentally and then ‘binge’ on things like sugar free jelly, ice poles, popcorn etc whilst watching a movie.
So although it’s not the healthiest thing in the world, I’m still controlling it and not going mad on the calories.

Northlights22 · 26/02/2023 17:02

Unless you’re a doctor or nurse why is anyone giving advice?
🤔
to assume it’s just IBS or piles is a terrible bit of advice
never ever down play bum issues
go to the doctor asap and get properly tested.

I have crohns but I’m sure if I was posting you’d get lots of MN experts who are not medically trained giving their limited/dangerous opinion down playing it and telling me it’s just IBS

Yes it feels like something like a crisp is coming out at first
it tends to be one part of the poo not all of it

Calm yourself down my dear. Even if you do have bowel cancer, which as I keep saying is statistically unlikely, it’s not a death sentence. Operation and chemo here and back to living a perfectly normal life. You’re doing the right thing talking to your doctor. Don’t let yourself be fobbed off - but also try not to let your imagination run away with you x

Thanks
I think mine is too and funnily enough whenever my mums around I tend to just completely binge eat ro a dangerous level
it’s like self harm cos I do t enjoy it it’s painful makes me unwell and then I worry after and Google if I’m having a heart attack it’s like I know it’s so bad, I don’t want to do it but I do it

the calorie controlled is. Good idea maybe I should try that

OP don’t listen to some of the terrible “facts” on here, no one can diagnose you through a keyboard. Call the gp, be honest with the receptionist about your symptoms and they may well give you an urgent appointment. Then you are in the best place for someone to work out what is wrong.

There are a lot of people who “know” what the symptoms of bowel cancer are. Believe me, if I had listened to you then I would never have gone to my gp.

Completely agree with this. I’ve seen two completely incorrect “facts” already (that bright red blood isn’t cancer and that you don’t need to worry if you’re under 50). Do people not realise how dangerous it is that they’re spreading this ignorance?!

I had bright red blood when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at 24. OP, it doesn’t sound likely that you have bowel cancer based on what you’ve said.

Pinkdelight3 · 26/02/2023 17:29

As well as seeing a GP about the physical issue, I hope you can get help with the psychological issue too. Not just the food-related problems but getting yourself in tears about dying/leaving your dd and framing things as 'giving yourself bowl cancer' - there's so much to unpack in there about how your mind is (not) functioning and you really need to find ways to understand what's going on and reframe your thinking. Seems like you're stuck in a negative loop of harmful thoughts that lead to unhealthy behaviour. I hope you can get help so you can not only be around for your dd but also be happier and healthier together.

CambsAlways · 26/02/2023 17:33

Go to your dr explain everything I don’t think anyone can give advice on here regarding bowel cancer

HappiestSleeping · 26/02/2023 20:10

DiddyHeck · 26/02/2023 14:46

No-one here can tell you but obviously you need a docs appointment.

Good luck OP, the sooner you go, the sooner you'll find out Flowers

This. Nobody on mumsnet will be able to answer this. A medical professional who examines you will.

Good luck, hope it is nothing.

MoreSleepPleasee · 26/02/2023 20:12

Yabvu. Go to the doctors. We have no idea.

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/02/2023 20:14

Yabu. I wish Mumsnet would have some ovaries and move threads like this.

turrrniiipz · 26/02/2023 20:16

You must see your doctor as a matter of urgency.

Bright red blood is more likely to be tearing, piles, anus etc, but it isn't always that.

Blood for more serious situations tends to be dark, tar like and combined with other symptoms such as a change in bowel habits and stomach discomfort. But can also be bright red blood.

Try not to worry, your post does point towards it not being anything serious but it's so important to check and early detection is everything.

…or maybe they could remove the nasty posters instead who like to kick others when they’re down…

We all fear the worst when things like this happen. You need to check it out with your GP no matter what we say on here.

The chances are it’s piles. Your GP will tell you when she examines you. It’s no big deal to her. Just go.

I know if I eat shite the same happens to me. So I have Tropicana instead of a hot drink with my McDonald’s breakfast. Or a salad with my chicken wrap instead of fries. Or a fruit bag that I don’t really want but make myself eat before I have my mid afternoon coffee treat.

Try and eat more fruit and veg and you will not have this problem. Follow the “five a day” thing and you know what to do when you do want to eat shite: swap some things you’d like for things that are good for you. While still enjoying the naughty burger or whatever.

ittakes2 · 26/02/2023 20:46

Try not to worry it doesn't mean you have bowel cancer for sure.
chaotic eating often comed hand in hand with neurodiversity - please google inattentive adhd and see if this applies to you

Do you bleed if you eat processed stuff too.

You need to see your GP to get checked out, but I did want to say that IF you had bowel cancer you haven’t “given it to yourself” from treating your body badly. Please don’t add that guilt to the way you’re already feeling.

Best thing to do is get checked by your GP for your bleeding and to see if you can get support with your eating too. Offering a hand hold ❤️

Thank you and I just thought that by saying that those that have battles the disease may think that im
implying they give it to themselve’s
as someone said that’s a pattern of my negative thinking and probably because I believe I should be punished for eating the way I do. I think your right if I had a friend with this I would of course be thinking that it was untrue that they had given it to them self so I hope I haven’t offended anyone who has suffered this awful disease xx
