every week ds comes home with his phoenemes(sp) each sound has an action. the action for ai is to cup your ear and say ay!

yetihed · 09/02/2008 21:38

Who cares as long as they learn it? I bet they love it!

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:39

Don't think DS got it.

nailpolish · 09/02/2008 21:40

is it really worth bothering about?

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:41

i obviously am too anal!!!!

moondog · 09/02/2008 21:42

Very good idea i reckon.

colditz · 09/02/2008 21:43

It's realistic, it's aim at children, not parents. yABU

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:46

what is yabu?
my kids dont say ay and neither do I

OP posts:
auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:47

wouldnt go in and complain just inwardly object!

OP posts:
emkana · 09/02/2008 21:47

Well every sound goes with a certain action, so is there anything else you could think of for ai?

yabu = you are being unreasonable

colditz · 09/02/2008 21:49

I bet they have heard other children say it. I don't say Ay and neither do my boys (actually we all say "Huh?") but Ds1 knows what it means.

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:49

ok i accept that. other people i have spoken to think its an odd thing to teach them too.

OP posts:
nailpolish · 09/02/2008 21:50

you are teaching them phonics

what is odd about that

its supposed to be fun not humdrum and pc

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:51

mine just ignore me and never ask me to repeat myself!!!!

OP posts:
nailpolish · 09/02/2008 21:51

colditz - we say "pardon?"

auntymandy · 09/02/2008 21:51

some phonics dont have an action at all

OP posts:
southeastastra · 09/02/2008 21:51

yes

AnnakeyRules · 09/02/2008 21:58

yanbu.

I'm constantly telling dd "it's not 'Ay?', it's 'pardon'". I realised I was fighting a losing battle, but didn't know why. I do now.

AbbeyA · 09/02/2008 22:35

YABU- it is a bit of fun and easily remembered by the children.

wooga · 11/02/2008 22:03

It's taught on the jolly phonics cd etc and it's an easy action to learn!

YABU-Its making learning fun!!!!!!!!!!!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/02/2008 22:23

Heh heh heh

Just wait til you have to do the action for 'U'

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/02/2008 23:02

No-one liked my wank reference then

Reallytired · 12/02/2008 10:26

I think you are nuts. Jolly phonics works and I don't think that my hearing impaired son is remotely offended by the action for ai. If he is not offended then why should you be?
