Horse question!!!

Daft question incoming.

I forgot to send away my horses passport before Christmas after buying him to get it updated with change of owner details. I was about to send it away today to get it updated but just realised I was planning to take him out jumping next week so obviously can’t travel with him if the passport is sent away getting updated. But now I’m worried I can’t travel with him with his current passport either if it’s not in my name. Does anyone know about this? I’ve never been in this situation before because I’ve never forgot to send away the passport lol. If worst comes to worst I’ll cancel the jumping but just thought I’d ask here in case anyone knows. We will be using hired transport btw not our own

It was a few months before I sent ours away for the same reason. I still had the change of ownership date written in pen, and then the breed society stamped 26th their own date. Never had any questions when competing.

Maybe post in the Tack Room?

The only time we have been asked for a passport at shows or being transported is for checking vaccinations or just that the horse has a passport. I wouldn’t panic to much. When you do send it off make sure you send it fully tracked and not just signed for. That way you can track the full journey. Take copies as well . Remember that it costs a lot to replace as a vet will need to come out so put the value high enough

Blimey I wouldn't even think about it for travelling. One of mine I've had 3yrs & not updated ownership, used hired transport. No idea if it's needed for BSJA showjumping tho if that's what you're doing.
And as PP did you know there's a Tack Room under Pets? 😊

I’ve travelled all over the country and across the boarder and never carried a passport. I’ve never heard of them being checked. If you need it to compete maybe message the venue and ask if you can use a photograph?

I've never sent a passport off to be updated with change of ownership. You should certainly carry it with you, but the only time it's ever been checked is for vaccination purposes - nobody is going to be cross checking whether you're the registered owner or not!

It depends what you do with your horse or pony. If it is a registered breed and you compete in breed classes bigger or qualifying shows check with the societies to see who is the registered owner. Whilst a passport in your name is not regarded as proof of ownership it helps if there is a problem
