Sorry posting for traffic as I’m really confused!
Left my job in July 2021 to set up my own business, I’ve only just been able to start taking a salary in Jan 2023 so about to pay my second months salary at the end of this month. It’s the bare minimum literally about £1000 a month but all I can afford at the moment. DH has been covering everything so nice to be finally contributing something again.
I’m pregnant, baby due mid May. I’ll have to pay someone to cover me while I’m gone so I can’t afford to keep paying myself the salary and someone else. My midwife seems to think I should be entitled to claim maternity allowance due to this? I did think I wouldn’t be entitled to anything as technically as I’m my own employer I have to pay myself under the rules, but obviously I know I can’t do that.
It does seem to a grey area online though and I can’t find any info on what I’m actually entitled to. Has anyone been in this position before?
