Calpol shortage?

Is anyone else struggling to find Calpol (6+)? I’ve tried 3 pharmacies and 2 supermarkets but no luck! Is it just where I am in Hampshire or is anyone else struggling?

YABU - no shortage
YANBU - I can’t get hold of Calpol either!

There are shortages of all manner of medications. I can't get the antibiotics my little one takes as a prophylactic and, more worryingly, one of the anti seizure meds we need is also almost impossible to get hold of.

Ooh I looked in a few different shops for the 6+ yesterday. I assumed the shops only sold the infant version but maybe they just didn’t have stock.

Have you tried finding paracetamol that isn't calpol brand?
You can also just use the calpol for younger children, just increase the dose.

It’s been like this for months. You can now usually get the baby calpol from supermarket chemists. But the 6+ is kissing in action.

not as bad as lemsip blackcurrant though - that vanished 6 months ago and hasn’t been seen since.

Last month could not get child ibuprofen - the hospital had run out too

I spoke to a pharmacist on Tuesday and she said there was a shortage. I’ve been trying to get it for weeks. Looked in Asda today and again, no 6+ Calpol.

I bought 2 days ago - waitrose in Berkshire.
I do know lots of children who are poorly at the moment though, so perhaps demand is higher than usual

Saw a large display of 6+ in Asda last weekend.

Can't you just up the dose on the infant calpol? Realise that it's not idea but better than nothing if you need it?

Do you need the 6+ though? Can’t you just use the baby one?

Also there are lots of own brands - including powders you can make up

If you can’t get six plus then either give the right dose in the normal liquid paracetamol (normally twice the amount you would give in six plus) or try with the right dose of tablet if old/heavy enough.

sadly at the moment their seem to be a lot of medicine shortages

There's a national shortage of loads of meds 😞

Lots of shortages of all sorts. Diorylite has been impossible to find for months and months - Pharmacist confirmed there's a nationwide supply issue

they did not have calpol at the chemist as it is on offer at the moment. They had generic paracetamol though.

We have Calpol/paracetamol around here but can’t get kids ibuprofen anywhere. The pharmacist I was talking to yesterday confirmed supply issues.

There's been supply issues for a while of all types of liquid paracetamol. Not sure what the reasons are. Could be if calpol brand are having issues then there's a knock on effect for non-branded versions.

My dd as a long term medical condition so it's a regular purchase. She could get a prescription but she doesn't like the taste but from what I gather there's no guarantee we'd get it that way either.

Have you tried Superdrug? I have the feeling that a lot of people head straight for Boots but don’t think to look in Superdrug. I’ve got Calpol there a few when supermarkets and pharmacies didn’t have any.

Own brands paracetamol is just the same

You would have to be exceptionally careful with dosage though. Paracetamol is not something you can afford to have a large margin of error with.

I can get Calpol but I can't get aspirin anywhere 😬
