to think that Vinted returns policy is crap?

I recently got the Vinted app and made my first purchase - a lovely dress, size 14. Its arrived and it's a size 12, so not as described. I went back and checked the listing, in case it was my mistake, but the listing definitely says 14 in two different places. There was no photo of the label.

So I contacted the seller, took a photo of the label to show that it's incorrect, and she has agreed a return. So far so good. But I've just learned that I have to pay the return postage, even though it was her mistake. Surely it isn't OK that I'll be out of pocket and she won't, and she'll have the dress back to sell on again.

AIBU to think that, if an item is not as described, the seller should pay the return?

Yanbu. However that is vinteds policy and no way round it. I agree its unfair.

Kentlassie · 23/02/2023 09:36

Yanbu. Totally agree and had the same situation. I bought something that was stated 0-3 months, and it was actually newborn. Seller apologised and said she was sleep deprived. Usless vinted CS couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to pay to return it, despite it not being my error.

Dablikeacrap · 23/02/2023 09:37

I had this with Depop.

the dress was not cheap and it was advertised as a size smaller than what it was. The seller was absolutely refusing a refund so I had to get PayPal involved. She agreed the refund but like you, I had to pay postage to refund which wasn’t great

the seller then left me bad feedback 🤦🏻‍♀️

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 23/02/2023 09:41

Yep. I just bought some trainers which arrived looking 10 years older, scruffier and dirtier than the photos. Furious! Sent them back but had to pay for it. And the scamming wankshafts have gone and relisted them with the same pics!!!

The most annoying thing is that you pay this “Buyers protection premium”
What it protects against I don’t know!

All that said, I’ll still carry on using it😁

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/02/2023 09:50

Yes, I thought the "Buyers Protection" was to make sure you're not out of pocket in cases like this. Clearly not!

The seller has been fine, agreed she'd made an error, and offered a refund. But it seems ridiculous that, where there's clearly an error, the buyer ends up paying for the return. I'm.not sure whether to send it back at my expense, or to keep and list it (correctly) myself. It's only a few quid but it's the principle!

The seller might be happy to cover the cost if you ask? I once made an error on vinted (I didn’t see a small stain on the dress) and despite the buyer sending me a really aggressive and rude message I offered to cover the return postage as it was completely my own fault for not thoroughly checking it.

Twinedpeaks · 23/02/2023 10:05

Why not just resell it yourself?

Paq · 23/02/2023 10:13

Vinted isn't a shop, the risk is that you are dealing with random members of the public and stuff goes wrong. That's why everything is so cheap!

I would just resell on vinted.

Whatatimetobealivetoday · 23/02/2023 10:17

Vinted should make the seller pay for their mistake. Personally If I was the seller I’d tell you to keep the item and resell it to recoup your postage cost but refund you also so you got your money back.

Flamingogirl08 · 23/02/2023 10:29

I'd resell it because then you won't have to pay postage

IamnotSethRogan · 23/02/2023 10:38

I would just resell it. While I can see it's annoying as it was completely the sellers error, it's a site for reselling clothes and not fast fashion. It just wouldn't be worth people's time selling on there if they're constantly having to deal with returns and it would probably kill the site.

Merlott · 23/02/2023 10:39

It does suck. Never spend more than you're willing to lose, and when selling, never list something you're not prepared to get zero £ for (worst case buyer fraud).

Eatentoomanyroses · 23/02/2023 11:20

i just see it as a gamble you take on Vinted tbh. I never buy anything that costs a lot for this reason. I’ve had people try to return things or haggle money back when there’s been nothing wrong with the item. I just say send it back if you’re not happy. They never do.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/02/2023 11:23

Twinedpeaks · 23/02/2023 10:05

Why not just resell it yourself?

I don't really want the hassle of selling, I joined in order to afford some new (to me) clothes as I've lost some weight but can't afford to replace my wardrobe

Anything bought online is a gamble. Anything bought from vinted / eBay etc. is a bigger gamble. I've bought two dresses, same size same brand, one fits and one is too small. I'm just reselling it.

If your item fit you wouldn't be unhappy. Selling on vinted is incredibly easy, as long as it actually sells!

Frenchfancy · 23/02/2023 12:24

I have learnt not to buy anything if there isn't a photo of the size. If they are a good seller they will refund knowing that otherwise they get a bad review. I always read reviews before buying.

xogossipgirlxo · 23/02/2023 12:27

It is! I recently received wrong item and had to pay for postage back, not seller. How is this my fault?

SpinningFloppa · 23/02/2023 12:31

I had something similar but luckily the seller noticed before she sent it, a dress age 8 turned out it was age 6 she asked if I still wanted it and I did as dd is 5 but I didn't know I would have to pay to return if she hadn't noticed! does seem wrong when it's their mistake rather than just not liking something

WorkingFromHomeRocks · 23/02/2023 12:36

Online selling sucks. DH sold two books to America recently. The buyer contacted him because he hadn’t received the books. DH initially sympathised until he found out it was because the guy hadn’t paid the customs charge and they’d been returned to us, at a cost to us of £18!! The CF even wanted another two books. Er no! You hear it all when you sell online.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 23/02/2023 12:40

Vinted is so crap for stuff like this. I've stopped using it because there's just no buyer protection, even though you pay for it.

HousePlantNeglect · 23/02/2023 12:46

YANBU!

I recently received the entirely wrong parcel from a vinted seller and under the rules would have to pay to return it despite of being
their mistake!

I asked the seller to cover the postage though and she did despite her not having to. So worth asking.

SeriouslyLTB · 23/02/2023 13:03

Ask seller to PayPal you postage? You might get lucky.

I always include a photo of size in listings just in case I upload incorrectly, which has happened!!
