Meant not buying new clothes that week/month, not going out that weekend..she likely being *Skint meant you really weren’t and were booking your summer holiday away that month.
How times have changed
The being cold in your own home is awful, but any kind of fun being taken out of cooking something nice at home because food is getting more expensive is pretty messed up.
This weekend as a *Treat, I cooked Mexican food

I'm earning around £200/month more this academic year and it's all gone on the extra cost of heating the house & energy bills. So with food going up to ridiculous amounts we still seem to be skint. Mortgage fixed rate runs out in October & pretty sure that will go up too. It's all a bit depressing. However we can still heat our home and eat so guess we're better off than others.

I remember moaning to a friend how I was really broke and things had been cut off/hardly any food in the house until I get my UC/various essential things needing replacing etc. kids are doing my head in blah blah and she turned and said to me "you need a holiday. Nothing expensive just take the kids to Majorca for the a few days"

I just stared at her like WTAF?! I just said I'm broke and you think I can magic money to go on f**king holiday?!?
Some people have NO idea
