Wearing a white dress to a hen do

Just as the title says - AIBU to think you don’t wear a white dress to a hen do that you are a bridesmaid for?
(Name changed for this, there is of course a backstory to this but I was the bride and aware my opinion will be influenced by the situation!)

OP posts:

I personally wouldn't, unless it had some kind of bold floral pattern on it!

Blacknosugarplease · 19/02/2023 22:20

Genuinely cannot understand what the issue is? I had to re-read your post to make sure you wrote hen do and not wedding. What’s the issue with wearing white at a hen do?

Starlitestarbright · 19/02/2023 22:21

You're pissed someone wore white to your hen is that correct?

nosyupnorth · 19/02/2023 22:21

I wouldn't give a damn. I am very much on the side of don't wear white at weddings, but the hen do is not the wedding and I assume you weren't wearing your wedding dress for the hen do (and if you were, that's odd and not the fault of the bridesmaid).

XenoBitch · 19/02/2023 22:22

Since when was their any sort of code about clothing at a hen do? I am confused.

whytesnow · 19/02/2023 22:22

No it's not the wedding

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 19/02/2023 22:22

I don't see an issue at all with wearing white to any event tbh. As long as you're not wearing a wedding dress or a sash with "bride to be" on, then it doesn't matter at all.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/02/2023 22:23

The women coming to my hen do are my best friends. I couldn’t care what they wear and wouldn’t for one moment think they were doing it to be shitty or competitive or whatever.

If you think this of your friends, I think the problem is your friends and the relationships you have around you, not the dress.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 19/02/2023 22:24

I think you can wear what you want to a hen do.

Transcriber · 19/02/2023 22:24

Hahaha haha - this can't be real. If it is OP, please explain your reasoning behind your objection

ItsAllSoComplicated · 19/02/2023 22:25

I don’t see an issue with white at a hen do. Sorry.

pinkySilver · 19/02/2023 22:25

Wear what you want. Some people wear a lot of white or black (me!). As long as it's not a wedding dress who the hell cares - and if these are the people the bride is closest to, her friends and family, surely she wouldn't care

Whitecrocus · 19/02/2023 22:26

I wouldn't - just think of the nightmare getting all the aftershock stains out

SpangoDweller · 19/02/2023 22:26

😂 come on then, what’s the backstory?

NancyJoan · 19/02/2023 22:28

Very much not at issue.

CuteCillian · 19/02/2023 22:29

Some women rarely wear anything else but white, or at least very neutral colours in a dress.
Cant see any issue.

VirtualRealitee · 19/02/2023 22:29

Huh?? What sort of weirdness is this?

It's just a hen do, wear whatever you want, everyone else does and always has! Confused

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 19/02/2023 22:29

Ok I can vaguely understand someone not wanting a guest to wear white to a wedding in case they get confused with the bride (which is in itself unlikely because a. Most people know who the bride is and b. If they didn't, it's kind of obvious since they are saying their vows and getting their picture taken and c. A wedding dress is usually very different to 'a white dress'.

But what's with the hen do? What would anyone actually be worried about in the context of the colour of the hens clothes?

VirtualRealitee · 19/02/2023 22:30

Starlitestarbright · 19/02/2023 22:21

You're pissed someone wore white to your hen is that correct?

If she's pissed, that would definitely explain the weird thread.

Cherrysoup · 19/02/2023 22:31

It’s a hen do, not the wedding. What’s the issue?

YesYou · 19/02/2023 22:32

Don't be daft 🤣

CharlotteStreetW1 · 19/02/2023 22:32

YABVU.

(I hope you haven't invited Geri Halliwell to your wedding)

ZenNudist · 19/02/2023 22:32

It's fine. It's a wedding you don't wear white for. If anything the bride shouldn't wear white for the hen but that's not a rule.

VirtualRealitee · 19/02/2023 22:33

So 15 minutes into the thread, lots of 'Huh? WTF are you talking about'.
Any chance you could reply with the backstory OP?
