Is Mil deleting my comments?

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:06

Not close to mil, but try to be civil and friendly. She posts on every Sm post I ever do, would rather not have my Dh’s family on there tbh. She’s commented on a post today about Dd, as have some of my friends. I replied to friends, so thought I should send a replied comment on mils comment (I know what the family are like and it would probably be seen in a negative way if I didn’t-ridiculous, I know!)
Anyway, when I was looking through friends comments, I saw my reply to mil wasn’t there, so I thought I mustn’t have passed send and sent the same reply again. Happened to see before that it’s not there again 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈Can people delete a comment you’ve replied to their comment on your post?

No they can't but they can set their settings so people can't reply to your comments. It might not be aimed at you.

KindlyKanga · 19/02/2023 21:09

It might depend on her security settings?

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:27

@Ponoka7 But would the reply I posted on her comment (on my post) disappear? 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’m trying again 😂

@KindlyKanga But it’s on my post? So she can delete me reply to her, on my post?

Are you sure it's not just that your comments are set to only show "top comments" or "most relevant"? FB often defaults to this and essentially hides comments unless you toggle the setting to show all comments and then they all appear

mangoontoast · 19/02/2023 21:30

Are you talking about Facebook? Is it only showing you "most relevant" comments?

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:34

Have looked through all comments and it’s not there again 🤔

Stop playing games and find out.

”Hi MIL, thanks for your comment on FB - isn’t dd so amazing etc. I have replied a few times but it seems to disappear, no idea why. I wanted to say etc etc.”

Not sure why you resent her commenting on your posts, but as you say you'd rather not have DH's family on your SM, why don't you stop playing games & unfriend her?

If you don;t feel able to do that, just ignore her comments. It's very simple, & will stop you from tying yourself in knots second-guessing her motivations & intent.

Terrysnotmine · 19/02/2023 21:40

On fb you can delete your own comments.

KettrickenSmiled · 19/02/2023 21:42

@KindlyKanga But it’s on my post? So she can delete me reply to her, on my post?

No, she can't.

PP have told you the most likely cause. Why are you winding yourself up over this?

Theunamedcat · 19/02/2023 21:42

She can delete hers which will wipe out yours and comment again but I'm not sure she can delete your comment...

lieselotte · 19/02/2023 21:43

If you don't want to unfriend her you can change the visibility of your posts so she can't see them.

UdoU · 19/02/2023 21:44

She can’t delete your reply to a comment she made on your post.

She has deleted it

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:49

@KettrickenSmiled What’s the most likely cause?

OP posts:
Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:51

I’m not playing games at all, I’m the opposite type of person. I worry they will think I never acknowledge/reply to her but do to other posters.
Ive put privacy on my stories etc so they don’t see, but this is my cover photo so I don’t think I can stop them seeing it

OP posts:
lieselotte · 19/02/2023 21:54

No the profile/cover photos are public.

To be honest Facebook comments are all over the place so I wouldn't necessarily assume malign intent. It's not just the all comments/most relevant comments thing, sometimes they just aren't there. I don't know why FB plays silly buggers so much!

dishyrishi · 19/02/2023 22:00

I dunno about you but this constant need to like and comment does my head in!

My MIL has basically joined every group I have, even ones where she can't possibly have an interest (think medical condition), and when I commen on stuff in those groups she likes the comments too Confused

Wheelz46 · 19/02/2023 22:03

This once happened to me and I kept commenting the same reply, the next day, all the comments were there 😆

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 19/02/2023 22:03

She can delete any comments on her posts yes. Even if you've replied to someone else's comment on her post, she can still delete it

Bournetilly · 19/02/2023 22:05

It was your post so no she can’t delete your comment. She could only delete her own which would then delete hers and yours.

Rainbowlights · 19/02/2023 22:05

If you don’t want any of your in laws to see your posts restrict your audience, they will see if you change your profile picture though, but nothing else though x

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 21:49

@KettrickenSmiled What’s the most likely cause?

@melj1213 & @mangoontoast have already explained this.

Whataweirdworlditishey · 19/02/2023 22:12

@KettrickenSmiled Yes and I already said it isn’t that as I put all comments on display

Oh well, just a bit weird
