Ooh, I'm not sure we are allowed to criticise this family here. According to the last thread, it was classist, child-hating and fat shaming.

FWIW, I think they are obnoxious. Apart from the young daughter, who I would gladly buy the biggest ice cream ever for, just to piss her horrid brother off.

What sibling would stand there and accept that thought? I’d have knocked it out of his hand or rammed it into his face.

Isnt it a rip off of matilda?

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 18/02/2023 20:50

It doesn’t reflect well on the ad agency who came up with it (unless the brief was “fat chavs”).

DogInATent · 18/02/2023 20:52

Makes you wonder who self-identifies with the family and thinks, "That's the holiday company for people like me".

Multipleexclamationmarks · 18/02/2023 20:53

Haha they're bloody awful and makes me not want to use them if that's who they're aiming their adverts at.

BillLius · 18/02/2023 20:54

Eight and a half threads later…

To be fair, I think the ad agency has played a blinder. The ad has been showing for a couple of months now and people are still talking about it! In 2042, when we're on a thread about 'TV Ads of the 20s - do you remember...', this will be at the forefront of many people's memories.

Floogal · 18/02/2023 21:09

Loathsome trio of turds. Nasty bullying brat and his mum

You could be right, no such thing as bad publicity and all that. Certainly On The Beach will now be one of the first holiday companies people think of!

LadyLyndon · 19/02/2023 00:12

Yes, as the one to avoid.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 19/02/2023 00:14

I was just talking about this tonight, totally agree the family are absolutely obnoxious.

Currently holiday shopping and would avoid on the beach at all costs purely based on that ad!

I always wonder how they cast for things like this, if they want someone overweight for an ad or programme how do they advertise what they’re looking for?

It’s a horrible advert.

LadyLyndon · 19/02/2023 07:26

@MyCatIsAnnoyinglyCute There are specialist casting agencies for this. I met a girl at a party and her boyfriend worked for a casting agency who were always on the look out for “interesting” people. He had found and cast the original 118 guys.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 19/02/2023 08:05

It’s one of my pet peeves at the moment. I’d walk under buses to avoid a family like that - the idea that I’m sharing my airport lounge with them would have me in tears!

I see the “You are talking about it so the ad has done its job” argument a lot - but I just don’t think it’s true. The job of an advert isn’t to get people talking - it’s to get people buying. The almost universal feedback on this ad is that it puts people off using On the Beach.

Leypalm · 10/02/2024 02:33

This ad is what puts me off package holidays , hate families like that
