Weighted blankets

How does everyone wash theirs? Mine only just about fits in the washing machine and I’m afraid the weight of it will ruin my machine. Also it’s too heavy to spin so is dripping wet when I take it out, so very heavy to hang on the line. Putting a duvet cover over it doesn’t work for me because, despite the weight of the thing it slips and slides everywhere within and it’s a bloody work out trying to get it back in place. 😮‍💨

The cover on mine has little ties inside that fix it to the blanket. They are bloody brilliant, I'm actually tempted to put some on my duvet and duvet covers too ( which I only use when it's really cold)

Having said that my weighted blanket could do with a wash. I need to check what size machines the laundrette has and take it there.

I have a Simba weighted blanket which comes with a washable cover.

Yours came with a cover? Mine didn’t but I have just checked and it does have loops on each corner.

Mine came with a removable cover. Definitely don't try to wash the actual blanket, I would be scared of breaking the washing machine.

Yup. It was one of the reasons I got a pricier one (gravity). The cheaper ones didn't come with covers and weren't standard sizes so couldn't even buy one.

It's crazy that places are selling then without covers - they are virtually impossible to wash and get dry - i've spot cleaned mine in the bath but otherwise I'd just air the blanket itself and wash cover.

You could spray with an antibacterial garnet spray too and air dry.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/02/2023 16:36

I bought a cheapish one because I wasn't sure if I'd like it.
Use it in a duvet cover - cover is slightly wider than the duvet, don't have a particular problem with it staying in place (cotton duvet covers). I thought I would initially, so bought some heavy duty safety pins (kilt pins) when I first got it, but don't always bother with them.
I have washed mine in a machine - it was fine, and I was surprised at how quickly it dried.

mrsbyers · 18/02/2023 16:38

I took mine to be washed once in a laundrette attached to side of a local garage - worked fine but mine too has an removable cover so I just wash that usually

fuckthisforagameofdarts · 18/02/2023 16:45

Mine isn't machine washable so it lives in a single duvet cover. Before that I put it in the bath with some Soak hand washing liquid

WildOats5678 · 18/02/2023 16:48

I’ve mashed mine in the washing machine and then left it outside in the sun to dry so that I didn’t mess with the glass beads. It depends on the weight of your blanket

Grizzledstrawberry · 18/02/2023 17:19

I washed my daughters in the bath, let it drip dry as much as possible then hung it over the top of a clothes airer outside, It dried much faster than I thought it would.

Insidelaurashead · 18/02/2023 17:37

Mines a 6kg one, slightly smaller than my double bed and I wash in the machine and either line dry or radiator dry. Rarely though as it lives on top of my duvet
