Muddy paws dog jumped on me on walk, WWYD?

I was walking across a park yesterday and two spaniels bounded towards me about 50 yards away from their owner. I could tell they were going to try and jump up at me so I avoided eye contact with them and told my dd to do the same.

Unfortunately one still did jump up at me multiple times and left mud on my clean trousers.

I shouted at the owner to please keep her dogs under control as one had got mud on my trousers. Not in an aggressive or rude tone though.

In my opinion if you don't have sufficient control over your dog to stop them doing this they need to be kept on a lead in public. The owner didn't seem very bothered and I think there is zero chance of her preventing this happening another time to someone else or possibly even to me again. I feel pretty annoyed about it.

I think there are some owners who either don't think it's a problem when their dogs jump up at strangers or who just don't care.

What would you do if this happened to you?

Stick them in the wash.

Is that possible? How would I do it?

@Butchyrestingface

Ah, that's the beauty. Captive audience. Grin

Stick them in the wash.

Sadly I think that’s as illegal as the spiky pole and the chocolate 😕

@IndiaDreamer not grim at all.. it's bloody great!

But it's also fact!

MargaritaRita · 18/02/2023 19:36

Funniest thread in ages regarding dogs. 😂

@FacingTheChallenge Dogs are allowed indoors to moult everywhere now because the hoover, shark (omg another animal), and dyson folk have said it's ok. And mostly women clean up after the dogs hair anyway. So it's all going according to plan.

But the good news is, as advertised by another thread...

Dogs are welcome in Neros 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

They've been welcomed in Nero's for over 10 years.

A smallish dog ran up to dd, jumped up and covered her clean clothes in mud.
The owners response was to shout at the dog and call it ‘A fucking little cunt.’ He didn’t apologise to either me or dd, just walked off with the dog still off lead.

Penguinsaregreat · 18/02/2023 19:38

yanbu op.

The third half are the half that don't have dogs. Wink

Those that don't have dogs are weirdos though 😜

Seriously, yes, that is indeed the third half. I expect they are even more disgruntled by the half that don't train.* *

IndiaDreamer · 18/02/2023 19:39

@AllThingsServeTheBeam no they haven't

I can tell you for a fact my dear my dog who is 11 in July has been a regular at our cafe Nero since he was a puppy.

IndiaDreamer · 18/02/2023 19:42

@AllThingsServeTheBeam do post the facts

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2023 19:42

Eh? My dog has been going into my local cafe Nero his entire life. What do you want me to do? I didn't get any photos.

Interesting

GofE · 18/02/2023 19:44

I’d be really pissed off. As a dog person myself (and horses among other animals), I don’t expect anyone’s animal to jump up unsolicited. If you can’t control it, don’t let it off. Simple.
I have been walking rescue foster dogs who have been perfectly fine until little ‘coco/luna/Lola’ lockdown dog jumps in his face and then he goes for the neck. He’s on a lead. Control your own animal. No one else should have to put up with it.

walking through a park or anyone doesn’t mean you should expect to get dirtied.

That owner had the only correct view on dogs.

MargaritaRita · 18/02/2023 19:47

The owners should be on the lead and the dogs can stop and chat and swear like blazes.

UWhatNow · 18/02/2023 19:49

Dog owners like this a complete cunts op.

Mud doesn’t always come out and if you had a nice coat that needed dry cleaning it would be costly. Irrespective of that, you wouldn’t want to go through a park and have anything jump on you - animal or human. So dog owners making out it’s no big deal are totally gaga over their pets and have totally lost all perspective of what is civilised and considerate behaviour toward other people. Cunts.

Cafe Nero in nearest small town to us has been allowing dogs for at least 9 years. Bizarrely, not many dog owners were aware of this.
I don't know if all other Cafe Nero shops had the same policy going back that far.

Nowadays, of course, all these bloody pandemic puppy dog owners have taken over everywhere with their ridiculous untrained dogs. it's not that enjoyable to visit anymore. We have 2 reasonably large dogs and they are well behaved but I can't say I'm too fussed about going there much of lately.

It's definitely been 10 in our town. I don't go anymore as I am now really struggling with mobility so can't. It used to be a Friday treat. I used to finish at dinner so used to walk into town to the pet shop to get the dog an turkey neck or something similar then we used to head to Nero for a coffee and a biscuit. The baristas used to make a real fuss of my dog.

I'm tempted to get more aggressive with people who simply don't give a shit about their dog smearing you with mud

Give the owner your dry cleaning bill!

BigFeelingsMoment · 18/02/2023 20:01

RemoteControlDoobry · 18/02/2023 19:11

You could become aggressive and upset the person. They’ll then feel on edge and not want to make eye contact or be pleasant to anyone, upsetting everyone that walks past and before you know it everyone’s being hostile.

You can’t expect excited dogs to be kept on leads in a park - they have far more right to be there than you do.

Don’t be ridiculous. People always have more rights than dogs.

Life is full of minor irritants. People accidentally spill drinks, dogs jump up, cars splash you with dirty puddle water. It's just life. Expect an apology from the owner and put your clothes in the washing machine.

Drivers splashing pedestrians is illegal & can result in a hefty fine. Dogs should be on a lead if they aren't under control.

These aren't the same as someone accidentally spilling a drink.
