to tell you I am going to park run this morning...

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 07:03

well, if I tell you, I cant really back out so easily, can I

backache, headache, nausea, aching limbs, blurred vision .....

but my consultant is adamant that exercise is beneficial, and park run, on the Saturdays that I am physically capable of getting out of bed, is the best possible thing to do

And I know I will feel better for it! I just cant be bothered to get up and get ready.

So am informing you, that this is happening, so it is happening.

I am going to aim to run at least half of it. I ran it all last time, two weeks ago, but am feeling a lot worse since then. Still, last Saturday I couldn't physically get out of bed, so at least I am better than then.

Im going! The only thing that can stop me is if I cant get a lift, as I dont think I could get myself there, or get myself back, if I felt worse unexpectedly

Anyone else really struggling to get started this morning?

If posting this helps you get up and go, then you are not being unreasonable.

Bigpinktrain · 18/02/2023 07:06

Go go go!

HedwigIsMyDemon · 18/02/2023 07:06

Does your consultant want you to run it or walk it?? Obviously we don’t know your medical issues but going from bed bound to running a 5km sounds a stretch!

However a 5km walk would be fab and probably very good for your MH - have fun 😍.

Starlightstarbright1 · 18/02/2023 07:07

Good luck.. I am off to work. The fresh air is good for your mood and will be so pleased when you have done it

pickledsausage · 18/02/2023 07:07

Go for it! And come back and tell us how it went 👏🏼

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 18/02/2023 07:07

Just walk it. That's great you are going but don't force the run if you have those symptoms.

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 07:07

yeah! Thank you guys! one leg in running shorts as we speak!
xx

I’m off to parkrun too 😊

WinterFoxes · 18/02/2023 07:10

Good for you. i'm off to bootcamp after an 8 day break due to a horrible virus. Still feeling achey and feeble but even if i just mark the moves without jumping it's better than another day on the sofa of doom.

Your symptoms sound awful, though. Hope they clear up soon.

FeinCuroxiVooz · 18/02/2023 07:11

most nights I have horrible insomnia and in the morning when I have to start moving I feel so grim. miraculously a couple of days ago I had a good night, and slept for 8 hours straight, and woke feeling well-rested and energised and did a 6km run. I was really hoping to repeat that this morning but I have been awake for hours and feel shitty. I have no idea whether I will manage a run, but I am admiring your resolve @Nimbostratus100 and will you will hear a virtual cheering whoop from me every 0.5km of your park run, telling you that you are brilliant and you can do it.

Auntiepaella · 18/02/2023 07:11

Good luck, OP! I hope it goes well and that you enjoy it 😀

BannMan · 18/02/2023 07:24

Check you @Nimbostratus100
Sounds a great start to the weekend.
Run a bit, walk a bit. Have a great time and I'm sure you'll feel better for it.
Let us know how you get on

MichelleScarn · 18/02/2023 07:28

Go @Nimbostratus100!! You can do it!!

CirreltheSquirrel · 18/02/2023 07:29

Go for it! I'm going for the first time in a while, last time I ran a bit too hard and tweaked my calf but I've built up my running a bit more steadily now so hopefully I'll be ok this time!

Sadlifter · 18/02/2023 07:30

I can't imagine any consultant telling anyone to do a 5k run with those symptoms unless there's no physical reason for them.

Is your plan to walk the 5k as there's no way in hell does it sound like you're fit to run

dont know anything then, do you!

Plenty of people heading to park run today struggling for physical or mental health reasons, do you think we should wear colour coded teeshirts so you know whether to cheer us on or not?

Mumsnet is an amazing source of support, but you always have to be able to blank out the few on each thread that are there to express their own bitterness and sourness by attempting to bring others down. Thankfully my mental health is very robust, and your strange insinuation ( whatever you are trying to say) wont touch me, but you could really upset someone else, dont you care about that?

well, I am on a bit of a rollercoaster with a serious illness, and the aim is to try and maintain a good basic fitness throughout, by continuing to be as active as possible when I can be, which varies hugely week to week. So run, ideally, because today is a good day. More realistically, half and half would be a good result for me.

Or just get round, if I need to lower my sights

Or just get to the start and wave everyone else off, as happened on one week.

How are you going to run safely with blurred vision?

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 07:59

thank you all for lifting me out of bed and getting me ready!

running shoes are laces are tied, lift is on the way, see you at the start

Chapeau! It's people like you that make parkrun great. I'm fully able and can't be bothered this morning but will do my own 5k tomorrow morning.

Have a good one. Just take it easy and enjoy!

I know plenty about serious illness and exercise. If I had blurred vision my consultant would not want me to go for a run. Obviously I don't know your exact circumstances.
