Chocolate

I spent £5.50 on a bar of chocolate today.
Meant to be a treat.

Went to open it after the kids were asleep.
Turned it over.
Contains no dairy.

It's bloody vegan chocolate.
And it's crap. Grainy. Dry. Yuk.

YANBU vegan chocolate should be clearly labelled on the FRONT

YABU wtf were you doing spending £5 on a bar of chocolate

YABU £5 is a heck of a lot for a bar of unknown flavour chocolate.
I'd expect to read the front and back before coughing up big bucks.

Pay more attention to things.

BamBamBilla · 17/02/2023 20:59

Is it's Tony's?

timesogin · 17/02/2023 21:07

Don't think you can do the voting thing on the app 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not Tony's. Is Tony's vegan too?!

Quick google - happily Tony's is not. At least not the bar that I carefully read the ingredients of.

It's some small producer from a posh food shop.

Is it very high quality dark chocolate?

That’s often vegan by default (all coco, no dairy), and more for cooking than scoffing.

RealBecca · 17/02/2023 21:10

How can you spend £5 on the fly for chocolate without looking at what you're getting?

Vegan has nothing to do with it, hotel chocolate hazelm*lk is amazing.

You were hasty.

timesogin · 17/02/2023 21:11

No it's only 55%. And salted caramel flavour (not a flavour all would like but I had DH in mind when I bought it)

Oh no! I would be happy to take it off hands though 😁

Cococomellonn · 17/02/2023 21:13

I thought Tony's too as I spent £4.50 months on a bar the other day.

and funnily enough I was just going to start a thread about needing to save money!

hennaoj · 17/02/2023 21:18

Chococo is really good, I got a Valentines hamper/bag from there. Currently eating the honeycomb heart, it's not going to last long!

ThinWomansBrain · 17/02/2023 21:20

I really like dark chocolate - so if vegan is because it's dark that's fine.

Housefullofcatsandkids · 17/02/2023 21:22

Some vegan chocolate is actually quite nice and much cheaper than £5.50. I think you've just picked a rubbish chocolate bar and it happens to be dairy free. Asda's own is lovely. If things are purposefully made to be vegan eg. a free from item then it would usually say on the front but some chocolate is suitable for vegans anyway like most dark chocolate. Lots of things are naturally vegan like bourbons, Coco Shreddies, lettuce...they don't always advertise it on the front.

pigsinoodies · 17/02/2023 22:01

Look on the bright side though.

No calf has existed to bring you that bar if chocolate and you've not contributed to the future existence of the cow species. Good for you.
