Florist adding extra £'s

Last week, I rang a florist for a medium bereavement bouquet at £X for a relative. Credit card details taken. She then said 'so that was £X'.

I queried, as she'd charged me for the large bouquet and I'd clearly said the medium at £X. She said it had gone through and nothing could be done now! She then went on a massive rant about the cost of flowers, didn't I know that Dutch farmers can't heat their green houses and the bouquet would have just been greenery for the medium!?! If relevant, I was feeling teary and utterly confused at this point and just wanted to get off the phone.

The 'large' bouquet was delivered, but I've since been thinking:

Should I now complain, let it be as I should have been more assertive at the time or another option?

I wouldn’t complain but I would consider a fair, balanced review.

GoldilockMom · 14/02/2023 23:05

What was the price difference?

SoShallINever · 14/02/2023 23:06

Outrageous of her to take advantage of anyone but especially the bereaved.
Yes, leave a review.

Really poor customer service to go on a rant about costs to someone who has clearly been recently bereaved - totally insensitive. Then to railroad you into a more expensive item - really bad.

CC4712 · 14/02/2023 23:12

It was £12 extra for the 'larger' bouquet.

If their medium is all greenery then they need to sort that out, as if that makes it ok! Awful, I think you should have sorted it out at the time but yes, as pp suggests a fair review of what happened would be a good idea.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 14/02/2023 23:15

That's truly rubbish...

She railroaded you into something you explicitly didn't ask for...

I would definitely at least write to her - to say it is definitely not ok tp change the terms of hour contract....

Assuming a pretty largr difference in price - (it's wrong what they did either way... But the amount extra that had been taken would make a difference for me...)... And say you want the difference credited to your card. If she continues with the unpleasantness, id happily contact trading standards...

For sone people this extra unplanned amount would cause real difficulty financially.

I hate dealing with florists at the best of times. They always want to know my budget before they then vaguely say I can have 'some' flowers. Ffs just say a £20 bouquet includes 5 roses 3 daffs and a sprig of holly. Or whatever. Every other business manages to describe their products well enough for customers to decide what to have at what price. Even seasonal changing ones like a restaurant.

OP This sounds very horrible and I'm sorry for your loss.

OnTheBoardwalk · 14/02/2023 23:19

The £x in your post are very confusing

did you agree an amount to be taken from your credit card then she took a different amount?

^^

CC4712 · 14/02/2023 23:35

@OnTheBoardwalk Yes, I agreed £35 for a medium florist choice and she took £47.

I thought I was helping her out by having whatever they had in stock that day and choosing a 'florist choice' and not choosing a really specific design!

Every card machine has the option to refund (either partial or full amount) so her saying it was too late was not correct.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/02/2023 00:29

A review saying you ordered a medium, got charged for a large with no refund possible, plus medium is all greenery, should do it nicely
