Tesco Clubcard Nightmare

So I don’t often use my Clubcard points, but was booking a hotel and saw I can use vouchers through hotel.com.

After a good morning spent checking hotel/terms and conditions - hotel definitely on Clubcard list - I cashed in the vouchers.

I get a code, try to enter it - code doesn’t work.
It’s a Sunday and no way of getting hold of Clubcard helpline - I didn’t want to lose the room I’ve booked, so I intend to flag with Tesco on Monday.
Phone Tesco and they refuse to refund voucher. They say to contact hotels.com.
Hotels.com say the code doesn’t work and the hotel shouldn’t be on the list. But won’t compensate for voucher. I screenshot the error code. Error code says hotel is not part of the promotion.

So I go back to Tesco.
Suddenly now the code does work (between my am phone call to hotels.com and pm contact with Tesco).
They say that because the code now works, they can’t compensate - even though I have a screenshot.

I’ve spent 2 mornings trying to sort this out!

My head is fried.
My complaint was shut down. No escalation allowed.

It’s only a blimming £10 voucher, but it’s the principle. And the frustration/2 mornings I’ve wasted!
AIBU??

But if the code now works what's the issue?

BatDinner · 14/02/2023 20:46

I’d already booked the hotel so couldn’t use it. Tesco said that if the code didn’t work - they’d have refunded the voucher.

The issue is she’s already booked the room without using the code.

Mrsbclinton · 14/02/2023 20:47

You have probably spent the 10 quid on phone calls….. I would write it off and let it go!

PutsFootInIt · 14/02/2023 20:49

That's annoying but not worth wasting too much energy over. You could try tweeting tesco and hotels.com if you haven't already?

BatDinner · 14/02/2023 20:49

I’m really not bothered about the £10. It’s the amount of blimming time I’ve wasted - and the frustration. And that they mis sold something and won’t admit it!

I'm pretty sure you can swap your voucher for something else instead of a refund. I have done this in the past with no issue.

Vallmo47 · 14/02/2023 20:51

It’s the principle matter, I get it Op.

BatDinner · 14/02/2023 20:52

Nope, no swap. I can use it for a different hotels.com booking - but I’m annoyed at both and won’t use either again!

Complain to the ASA - it's a promotion that hasn't been run properly or without causing disappointment to the consumer (you). Contact Tesco again, tell them what you've told us, and tell them they either refund or you will be reporting them to the ASA under section 8 of the CAP Code.

BatDinner · 14/02/2023 20:57

Oooo - I like that!! Thank you @lieselotte

I have a screenshot clearly showing the code didn’t work. It’s the fact that someone ‘changed’ it to work - and then claimed I’d somehow made a mistake.
