So what?

Lordhelpmeme · 14/02/2023 10:46

Well the point is it has no adult oversight and can’t be checked!
debating whether I either snoop and find her password (which she will have written in her notes)
or
being it up and remove phone

I would delete the app and stick parental controls on the App Store.

If android, get family link, you can block it. On Apple, just put a password on app store downloads so she can't do it without your permission.

My 11 year old has an account which is linked to mine (on three mobile). I have to approve any app she wants to install which avoids this happening. I have also put an age limit on you tube which limits the videos she can watch. Might be worth thinking about rather than relying on trust alone. My DD is a really good girl but has asked for Snapchat several times so would definitely have downloaded it if she she could.

I resisted it for a long time but my 12 year old has it now because that's how they all communicate. WhatsApp is only for old people apparently.

You do need a spot check rule though. I don't like it but it's a balance between keeping them safe and isolating them from about 90% of the chat with their mates from school.

Yeah I agree. So I allowed her to have it with the agreement I would check.
she has now gone and got another private account that I can’t check
this is out of character for her
I’m going to block it

You can't check Snapchat even if you know about it anyway. I would suggest you have some control over that she can download, what else is she downloading without your knowledge?
