To wonder why more people aren't speculating more on the possibility of extraterrestrial beings?

The headline today on the BBC regarding the object shot down by US military is very interesting.
The US Military Commander has stated that they "have not ruled out that the objects were extra-terrestrial"

Because some people, at least, are not idiots.

pizzaHeart · 13/02/2023 11:52

Surely if it was China then no one could fault the US for shooting it down? They were in the US airspace and had no reason to be
@Teaandtoast3 China could that’s the problem

OntarioBagnet · 13/02/2023 11:53

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/02/2023 09:29

If they were extra terrestrial it would be a bit of a co incidence they were all over or near USA.

China say they’ve had one over them now. Of course that could be bollocks.

Littleloveydovey · 13/02/2023 10:07

Surprised at these responses. Generally they do rule it out to avoid panic. It is surprising they haven’t this time. And they are clear that they don’t remotely resemble the Chinese balloon. They aren’t even calling them balloons. Cylindrical and shatter when shot

I agree with this 🕳️

MyOldFriendTime · 13/02/2023 12:00

Look!! A dead cat!!

SofiaSoFar · 13/02/2023 12:01

Yes, what we really need here is more armchair detectives speculating on things they're clueless about.

Although, perhaps that might distract some MNers from solving the Nicola Bulley disappearance via smartphone.

Dunning Kruger effect, etc.

Twiggywinkle13 · 13/02/2023 12:08

I honestly can’t believe there are people who think that there isn’t something else out there. How ignorant! We don’t even know the size of space, how can we possibly know that there isn’t something millions of light years away?

CalistoNoSolo · 13/02/2023 12:08

It's Chinese tech. The recovered debris has been traced back to several Chinese tech companies with military links. The info is all out there. And it's highly unlikely the Chinese have a technological edge over the US, they are tech thieves not tech innovators.

Bunnyfuller · 13/02/2023 09:42

I don’t think they are of alien origin. At least I hope not. Shooting down visitors from another planet isn’t a great start, is it?

No, it's not. But I suspect 'being friendly' isn't the main policy of the US's defence force!!

frankly, I don't think there's any such thing, at least not of the variety that wants to visit earth. WTF would they?

if they do, let them take over No10.

might as well give them a shot!!

@Cozytoesandtoast00 Some people are always speculating on it. Thankfully not on MN too often, there's enough batshittery as it is.

I think in this instance, there's no need to speculate about aliens 👽

UnfinishedBusiness · 13/02/2023 12:14

My bigger concern is that China/Russia/wherever now know that if they want to drop a bunch of some sort of nasty virus/spores/nerve agent over the part of the US all they have to do is shove it in a balloon/odd flying device and float it over. America will do the dispersal for them by blowing it out if the sky.

TheNoonBell · 13/02/2023 12:17

It's not aliens, it is interdimensional elves.

It is the last thing that Alex Jones has warned of that hasn't come true yet.

icanneverthinkofnc · 13/02/2023 12:18

Apparently it's not aliens, it's visitors from over the ice wall at the Antarctic. That's the 'facts' according to one guy I know.

CrunchyCarrot · 13/02/2023 12:41

The Chinese are busy trolling the Americans and doubtless having a good laugh about it.

If the Americans really thought they were dealing with UFOs I hardly think blowing them out of the sky is the right approach for First Contact!

Roseyposeypudding · 13/02/2023 13:17

My favourite theory is that it’s the Chinese purely ‘making mischief’. This sounds like a realistic theory to me! I think their response is a little suspicious anyway. They basically said ‘Well the US sends loads of spy balloons over here!’

WisteriaLodge · 13/02/2023 13:40

I made the mistake of watching "A Quiet Place" the other night, scared the crap out of me.

WisteriaLodge · 13/02/2023 13:44

They basically said ‘Well the US sends loads of spy balloons over here!’

The latest objects shot down were not balloons, they were a hard material that shattered when shot at.

GasPanic · 13/02/2023 13:50

The US has been getting a bit more serious about UFOs, or what they term UAPs recently. A couple of years ago there were some films on the web of these things moving at great speed, changing direction almost instantly and disappearing into the sea.

Difference is, they were moving fast, really fast. I doubt very much they could have been shot down - although as far as I am aware the Americans didn't try.

These new things are different in the respect that they are moving slowly, and the US believes it can shoot them down. So not really compatible with the more baffling UAP videos you can see on the web from fighter jets.

I am sad the next apocalyptic nightmare appears to be aliens rather than zombies, I am much more prepared for zombies.

DP did try and cheer me up by saying maybe the aliens will turn people into zombies, but its not the same

😂😂😂

PToosher · 13/02/2023 15:28

Regarding the 'Why is it always the USA' questions :

  • The UFOs seem to be attracted to nuclear weapons and nuclear power sites. The USA has a lot of them.
  • The US tested nuclear weapons under the sea, UFOs have regularly been seen emerging or submerging into the sea.
  • Roswell was the launch base of the Enola Gay that dropped nukes on Japan. Roswell was the only nuclear base at that time.
  • Both the USA and Russia have reported UFOs interfering with their nuclear weapons. Notably in Montana USA.
  • In the UK the biggest UFO event was Rendlesham Forest, where there are American and British military bases hosting nuclear weapons. The supposed UFO landing was adjacent to an American nuclear base.

So it seems that there is a link between UFOs and nukes.

Also, we are in the 'Anglosphere', we see US news, we don't see Russian news or Asian news. These UFOs are seen all over the world but we only hear reports from English speaking countries.

WisteriaLodge · 13/02/2023 15:57

UFOs are attracted to Mexico as well...

PineappleMel · 13/02/2023 16:10

Since the US shot one down, I suspect they know exactly what it is. I'm not having my time wasted watching the news pointlessly speculate for a week. I'll hear the dull actual answer when they are done playing around and are ready to confirm it.

Like I'm not pointlessly speculating or reading speculation about NB. Or pointing out that if she had been swept away by that virtually stagnant river, she wouldn't be in Morecambe Bay since it comes out at Blackpool. The truth will be told when they're ready to tell it - till then they waste everyone's time with nonsense speculation.

soboredtonight · 13/02/2023 17:54

I'm not questioning it right now because I'm sick of things happening. Covid. Ukraine. Cost of living.

MrMarkham · 13/02/2023 18:51

Does anyone remember the West Wing episode with the weather balloon? Didn't they say they thought it was aliens then?

Anyway I for one welcome our alien overlords. Couldn't get any worse.

OnMyWayToSenility · 13/02/2023 19:08

I'd prefer aliens 👽 to the current shit show of so called leaders in this world
